Job description

We are currently seeking candidates for an IT Specialist/Linux position, located in our Wallops Island, VA station.

Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) Wallops Island requires support for management, engineering, operation, and technical expertise for activation, operations, maintenance and engineering of equipment, systems, and computer programs in support of all Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and Program Executive Office, Integrated Warfare Systems (PEO IWS) missions and projects performed at SCSC. SCSC provides live and simulated integrated warfare capabilities in a net‑centric, maritime environment to develop, test, evaluate, and conduct fleet operations and training for the warfighter.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers and workstations.
• Maintain compliance with DoD Security Technical Configuration Guides (STIGs).
• Troubleshoot and repair issues.
• Write scripts to automate processes.

Education, Knowledge or Certifications Required

• Bachelor’s degree within the last five years in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Software Engineering or similar degree as listed in the DoD 8140 listings from an ABET accredited or NCAE designated institution.

• One of the following certifications:
• CompTIA Cloud+
• CompTIA Security+
• GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP)
• Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)
• Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP)
• Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Security
• CompTIA SecurityX (formerly CASP+)
• Federal IT Security Professional-Operator-NG (FITSP-O)
• GIAC Foundational Cybersecurity Technologies (GFACT)
• GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC)
• Maintain Cyber Work Force requirements of 20 Continuing Education Units (CEU): meet a minimum of 20 CEUs per year, or as required by certifications, whichever is greater.

Qualifications

• Active DoD Secret security clearance highly desired; candidates eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance will be considered. If the selected candidate does not hold an active clearance, he/she will receive a contingent offer. A start date will be established once an interim Secret clearance is granted.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from various work locations on base.
• Must maintain the capability to communicate with their supervisor and/or manager when not in the office.

• Sitting for long periods of time, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling.
• Reaching, handling, using equipment, keyboards, and mobile devices.
