Description
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Manager and the direct supervision of the Information Technology Administrator, the Information Technology Specialist (ITS) provides frontline technical support to District staff and assists with the maintenance, troubleshooting, and security of District information systems.
This position supports day-to-day technology operations including desktop support, equipment configuration, basic network maintenance, software updates, user account support, and technology-related assistance. The ITS helps ensure the continuity, functionality, and security of District hardware, software, communication systems, and field technology tools.
The position is granted access to systems containing confidential employee and operational information and must adhere to all District data privacy and security requirements.
Essential Functions
- Responds to help desk requests and provides troubleshooting support for computer hardware, software, printers, mobile devices, peripherals, and network connectivity issues.
- Installs, configures, and maintains workstations, laptops, tablets, and mobile devices in compliance with District standards and security protocols.
- Assists with routine monitoring and basic troubleshooting of the District’s LAN/WAN and wireless network.
- Installs and updates software applications, applies patches, and ensures antivirus and system updates are current.
- Maintains accurate inventory and documentation of IT assets, support tickets, system maintenance, and repairs.
- Assists with data backups, system imaging, and routine updates in support of disaster recovery and business continuity.
- Supports the District’s email, messaging, and telephone systems, including account setup and password resets.
- Assists in the configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting of GPS devices, surveillance equipment, and other field technologies.
- Provides guidance and instruction to staff regarding the use of hardware and software.
- Maintains security and confidentiality of District data and systems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field; OR
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience providing technical support in a networked environment
- Experience working with Windows operating systems, Microsoft 365, and basic networking concepts
License / Certification
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s License
- Ability to be insured through the District’s self-insurance program
- Must maintain required license and insurability throughout employment

Physical Demands & Work Environment
This position requires a combination of office and field work. The employee must be able to sit for extended periods, perform repetitive motions, and operate a computer and other office equipment. The position may require lifting up to 50 pounds and occasionally more than 60 pounds with assistance.
Work may occur indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to pesticides, chemicals, inclement weather, communicable diseases, and other environmental hazards. The employee may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime during periods of high mosquito activity and emergency response.
