This role will establish a structured, transparent, and defensible approach to aligning technology investments with strategic business objectives.

The IT Portfolio Manager will also help ensure projects follow recognized project, portfolio, and service management frameworks while optimizing departmental resources and delivering measurable value to the organization.

Key Responsibilities
Project Intake and Prioritization
  • Design, implement, and manage a standardized project intake process.
  • Ensure project requests include clearly defined business drivers, scope, estimated costs, resource requirements, risks, dependencies, and expected outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain an objective scoring model that evaluates initiatives based on reach, business impact, urgency, resource availability, risk, and strategic alignment.
  • Maintain a centralized project backlog to support transparent, data-driven prioritization and reduce informal or competing prioritization processes.
  • Support leadership in evaluating new initiatives and making informed investment decisions.
Project and Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Partner with business units to ensure project proposals accurately reflect business needs, strategic alignment, expected benefits, and realistic delivery expectations.
  • Manage cross-project dependencies, constraints, risks, and resource conflicts.
  • Coordinate activities among IT teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and other project contributors.
  • Facilitate project and portfolio meetings, gather required documentation, and support project activities as needed.
  • Promote clear communication and accountability across technical and nontechnical teams.
Portfolio Governance and Performance Tracking
  • Monitor project timelines, budgets, deliverables, risks, dependencies, and overall performance across the IT portfolio.
  • Prepare and present portfolio reporting to IT leadership, steering committees, and business stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and maintain alignment between IT initiatives and departmental or enterprise strategies.
  • Conduct regular portfolio reviews to assess project progress, strategic value, risks, resource allocation, and delivery capacity.
  • Identify portfolio-level issues and recommend corrective actions, reprioritization, or resource adjustments.
  • Establish and maintain portfolio governance standards, processes, documentation, and performance metrics.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Professional certification from the Project Management Institute, Scrum Alliance, PRINCE2, or a similar organization is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of project portfolio management principles, governance practices, and prioritization methodologies.
  • Experience working with both Agile and Waterfall project delivery methodologies.
  • Knowledge of IT service management and governance frameworks such as ITIL or COBIT.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to translate complex technical information for both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, resolve conflicts, and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Experience coordinating projects across multiple IT disciplines and business functions.
