Freeborn County is seeking an IT Technician to install, support, and maintain computer systems and networks in a Microsoft environment. You will configure hardware, troubleshoot problems, deploy workstations, and monitor security and performance.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in computer science and practical knowledge of Active Directory, patch management, and strong customer service skills. This position requires collaboration with a county IT team and external vendors.

Competenze

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field is required.
  • BCA Security Awareness Training is required.
  • Experience with Windows server/desktop environments and Active Directory is expected.
  • Strong documentation and customer service skills are essential.

Mansioni

  • Install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and update workstation hardware and software in a Microsoft environment. Configure and maintain disk imaging using deployment server for workstation deployment.
  • Monitor network performance and security.
  • Assist with network troubleshooting, including IP configurations and basic device configurations.

Description

IT technicians install, repair, and maintain computer systems and networks. They diagnose problems, provide support, and configure hardware and software upgrades. IT technicians may focus on end-user support or network maintenance and security.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Independently install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and update workstation hardware, programs, and a variety of peripheral devices in a Microsoft environment. Configure and maintain disk imaging using a deployment server to automate workstation deployment.
  • Monitor network performance and security.
  • Assist with network troubleshooting, including connectivity, IP configurations, and basic network device configurations.
  • Work independently with users to train and solve daily issues, with respect to users with different levels of computer knowledge and maintaining confidential data practices. Make recommendations to users on how to use technology to be more productive. Design and configure solutions to meet user needs to ensure functional integration into system, maintain system security and prevent user down time.
  • Respond to IT support tickets in a timely and professional manner, ensuring all incidents and resolutions are accurately documented.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware problems, such as malfunctioning components, connectivity issues, and peripheral failures.
  • Collaborate with the IT team to implement and maintain IT security measures, such as antivirus software, security patches, and access controls.
  • Work with various vendors, peers, and senior managers to resolve issues.
  • Ensure that all areas of the organization’s technology infrastructure work efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and training regarding IT duties.

Position Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Considerable knowledge in the following technology areas: Microsoft server and desktop operating systems, Active Directory, Group Policies, File Sharing, Antivirus software, Backup software and procedures, and Software updates and patch management.
  • Considerable knowledge in the following technology areas: Networking concepts; TCP/IP, VLANs, VPN; switches; and routers.
  • Ability to provide optimal customer service skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain accurate documents and records.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral forms.
  • Considerable skill in effective oral and written communications to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to follow data practices requirements regarding confidentiality and privacy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to handle a variety of typical assignments under limited supervision with general autonomy in determining how objectives are achieved.
  • Ability to apply considerable analytical ability to select, evaluate and interpret data from several sources, interpret guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Effective communication with department and other departments, outside agencies and vendors on specialized matters requiring detailed or technical responses/ explanations.
  • Ability to prioritize work requirements and demands.
  • Ability to assess problems and make technology recommendations.
  • Ability to create and maintain accurate documents and records.
  • Ability to follow data practices requirements regarding confidentiality and privacy.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and general autonomy in determining how objectives are achieved.
  • Ability to maintain frequent inside and outside contacts to carry out organizational programs and matters that require cooperation, explanation, and persuasion.
Education and Experience
  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or related field.
  • BCA Security Awareness Training

Physical and Mental Requirements

This job typically requires sitting, standing, crouching, squatting, walking, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, typing, and seeing. There is significant exposure to computer keyboards and video screens. This position is generally light-duty and may require the exertion up to 40 pounds of force.
