The Level 2 ISSO Team plans, coordinates, and assists with security compliance and accreditation related to enterprise networks and IT systems. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serving as an Alternate ISSO for the Level 2 Information System Security Plan (L2 ISSP). The L2 ISSP is comprised of LANL’s classified and unclassified network and infrastructure services.
  • Independently lead work on unusually significant or complex issues, providing guidance and direction as appropriate to other cyber security personnel.
  • Develop advanced concepts, techniques, and standards.
  • Coordinate among LANL's IT stakeholders, IT management, and federal oversight to process compliant lab wide IT initiatives.

This position will be responsible for ensuring that these systems meet cybersecurity, privacy, and other compliance requirements established by the LANL Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), LANL ISSM, National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Department of Energy (DOE) Orders and Manuals, and other federal regulations. This role will also have reporting responsibilities for formal events such as disaster response/recovery exercises, after action incident response documentation, inspections, and audit findings.

Due to federal restrictions contained in the current National Defense Authorization Act, citizens of the People's Republic of China-including the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau-as well as citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea), and the Russian Federation, who are not Lawful Permanent Residents ("green card" holders) are prohibited from accessing facilities that support the mission, functions, and operations of national security laboratories and nuclear weapons production facilities, which includes Los Alamos National Laboratory.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience working within NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF)
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with information security compliance and accreditation activities for large and diverse information systems.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and expertise in two or more of the following disciplines: cyber security, information security, information assurance, or computer science.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of classic and contemporary cyber threats and vulnerabilities. This includes experience with common tools and methods used for vulnerability assessment, detection, and mitigation.
  • Advanced knowledge of distributed systems, including system architectures, computer networks, and software.
  • Experience with network logging and log aggregation tools such as Splunk
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues with both technical and non-technical audiences; and experience composing technical documentation or information system security plans and associated accreditation and compliance documentation.
Education/Experience

Position requires a bachelor's degree (master's preferred) in a technical field and a minimum of 8 years' related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (MS + 5 years; AS + 12 years; No degree + 16 years).

Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of wireless technologies, and their various applications
  • Technical knowledge of FedRAMP cloud implementation and accreditation
  • Experience with cyber audits and assessments
  • Experience with network logging and log consolidation tools such as Splunk
  • Current experience as an ISSO in a DOE/NNSA or other U.S. government facility
  • CISSP or other professional cybersecurity certification
  • Experience working in a classified computing environment
  • Active Q clearance
Work Location

The work location for this position is telework and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Telework is defined as working from offsite but within 2hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year or 2 years.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NCSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q

Position will be cleared to this level. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test

The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
