Job description

Company Federal Reserve Bank of New York Develops, executes, advises upon, or maintains information security processes and activities that promote resiliency by identifying and mitigating cyber threats through risk-based consultation, advice, and direction for controls, designs, and other activities for the Bank. Manages large projects or initiatives with limited oversight from their manager.

Role Description

The Risk Group’s mission is to help the Bank achieve its goals while managing risks within the Bank’s risk tolerance and strengthening the risk culture. The Group’s role is to serve as the Bank’s first and second lines of defense to ensure effective risk management. We do this by performing independent assessment and oversight of the Bank’s risks. We have established frameworks to improve Bank’s risk management processes. Under the Risk Group, Information Security New York (ISNY) runs a Bank‑wide cyber operations function focused on incident response, investigation, digital forensics, and security monitoring. The Local Incident Response Team (LIRT) handles a high volume of security investigations and operational escalations. The Information Security Specialist will help maintain the Bank’s cyber resilience by executing hands‑on triage, deep‑dive investigations, rapid containment, and operational enhancements across FRBNY’s on‑premises and cloud environments. This role is essential to ensuring timely and effective response to threats impacting the Bank’s mission and operations.

Job Summary

Contributes to information and cyber security projects, initiatives, processes, operations and activities. Collaborates to solve an assortment of information security problems that are well defined. Uses judgment with defined information or cyber security practices to determine appropriate action, involving key stakeholders as may be required.

Qualifications

Seven years or greater experience in cybersecurity Has an area of specialization within their discipline. Has broad knowledge of project management. Advanced understanding of business line and a broad understanding of the overall Bank.

Skills required in the role
  • Strong understanding of IR/monitoring processes, threat actor tactics, and modern cyber defense technologies.
  • Proficiency analyzing logs/events across SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk), analytics tools (e.g., Tableau), and other security telemetry sources.
  • Solid conceptual knowledge of IT infrastructure, networking, and system architecture.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to synthesize information and explain it Organized and resourceful, with the ability to work as part of a team and independently Ability to assimilate new information and learn new tools/systems Curiosity and critical thinking skills Proficiency in data visualization a plus Applicable work experience is preferred
