Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks a Group Leader for the Information Sciences (CAI-3) group within the Computing and Artificial Intelligence Division to advance data science and computing in support of national security missions. The role oversees research direction, personnel development, and a sustaining portfolio aligned with mission needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation
• Experience mentoring researchers, developing technical leaders, and building a collaborative, respectful work environment
• Experience managing resources and commitments, building partnerships, and communicating technical priorities to staff, sponsors, and leadership
• Ability to set research direction, lead multidisciplinary teams, and guide frontier technical work to successful outcomes

Responsibilities

• Establish research priorities and build programs with Laboratory partners and external sponsors
• Recruit, mentor, and retain outstanding researchers, and develop future technical and organizational leaders
• Oversee budgets, staffing, and program commitments while sustaining long-term scientific capabilities
• Empower the deputy and technical team leaders through clear responsibilities, delegation, and accountability
• Promote scientific excellence, collaboration, and a respectful workplace with strong safety and security practices
• Contribute to strategy and management across the Computing and Artificial Intelligence Division
