Job summary

Alvernia University’s Franco Library seeks an experienced librarian to plan, coordinate, and supervise information literacy instruction, research services, and library assessment activities. You will work with faculty to integrate information literacy into curricula and help set library-wide policies.

The role includes supervising graduate assistants, maintaining the library website and instructional resources, and engaging with the campus community through committees and service projects.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Experience in information literacy instruction and reference services.
  • Experience with library assessment and data collection.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to lead and supervise student workers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead information literacy instruction sessions with faculty collaboration.
  • Coordinate library assessment planning, data collection, and analysis.
  • Develop and publish information literacy guides across formats.
  • Serve as library liaison to assigned academic areas.
  • Oversee reference staffing and provide reference assistance.

Job description

Responsible for the planning, coordination, and supervision of the following major library activities: information literacy instruction and tools and research services. Participates in library assessment planning and data collection. With other professional staff, sets library-wide policies, determines library directions, and develops appropriate performance measures.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead, present, and coordinate library information literacy instruction. Work with faculty to provide information literacy sessions.
  • Participate in library assessment activities including planning, measurement, and analysis of data. Evaluates the effectiveness of library resources and services assessment and provides recommendations.
  • Participate in digital and print collection development activities, and act as library liaison with the faculty in assigned academic areas.
  • Lead reference staffing and tracking. Provide reference assistance to students, faculty, staff and community patrons.
  • Develop, update, and publish information literacy guides and other resources in all formats for the Franco Library.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Train and manage a graduate assistant to populate and monitor all aspects of the library’s social media presence.
  • Hire, train and supervise the library’s Graduate Assistants.
  • Maintain library's webpage.
  • Assist with technical services operations.
  • Educate and assist faculty with Open Educational Resources (OER).
  • Engage with the university community through committee work, displays, service activities, etc.
  • Create and maintain library’s information literacy video collection.
Qualification/Education:
  • Commitment to the mission statement, core values and goals of Alvernia University.
  • A master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Academic library experience in reference services, information literacy instruction, and library assessment and data collection.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff; utilizes excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to adapt and lead in a changing library environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Ability to effectively supervise student workers.
Physical Requirements:
  • Attendance is required to perform the duties of this job.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
