Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Information Governance Specialist to support the STIP and manage the STI lifecycle in accordance with DOE requirements. You will ensure information is identified, reviewed, stored, released, retained, and protected across its lifecycle, and you will interact with DOE, OSTI, and INL policies.

The role includes leading training, documenting procedures, and collaborating with technical teams to implement improvements.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Library/Archival Science, IT/CS, Business, Law, Political Science, or related field.
  • Ability to obtain a DOE 'L' security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
  • Experience with information lifecycle management and compliance programs is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct program implementation by interpreting requirements for the laboratory.
  • Define standards for information review, storage, release, and retention.
  • Advise staff on required processes to ensure program compliance.
  • Audit performance to verify adherence to information management and lifecycle needs.

  • Develop documentation, procedures, and training for STI obligations.
  • Lead user training and program communications.
  • Recommend improvements including process modernization and system enhancements.
  • Oversee STI submissions, reviews, releases, and OSTI reporting workflows.

Job description

The Information Governance Specialist role supports INL’s Scientific and Technical Information Program (STIP) by providing process, system, and customer support throughout the STI lifecycle. This role ensures scientific and technical information is properly identified, reviewed, stored, released, retained, protected, and made accessible in accordance with DOE requirements, INL policies, contractual obligations, and applicable information-protection requirements.


Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:


  • Direct program implementation by interpreting applicable requirements and determining how they must be applied within the laboratory.

  • Define program expectations and standards for how information is reviewed, stored, released, and retained across its lifecycle.

  • Advise, instruct, and direct laboratory staff on required processes and actions to ensure compliance with program obligations.

  • Assess and audit program performance to verify organizational adherence to information management, lifecycle, and compliance requirements.

  • Establish, maintain, and enforce lifecycle workflows, metadata standards, and system requirements.

  • Evaluate issues and system behavior, determine programmatic impacts, and collaborate with technical teams to prioritize and implement corrective actions.

  • Develop authoritative program documentation, including procedures, job aids, instructions, and training that define how requirements must be implemented.

  • Lead user training and program communications, ensuring personnel understand required responsibilities and practices.

  • Recommend and drive program improvements, including process modernization, system enhancements, and lifecycle related decision changes.

  • In Scientific and Technical Information Program (STIP) focus areas, capacity to identify scientific and technical information (STI) subject to DOE requirements; interpret and apply DOE and OSTI requirements governing STI submission and dissemination; oversee submissions, reviews, approvals, releases, as well as OSTI reporting workflows; and advise authors, reviewers, and personnel on STI responsibilities. Ensure workflows are fully aligned with DOE and OSTI requirements.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Required:


  • Level 1: Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Library or Archival Science, IT or Computer Science, Business, Law, Political Science, or Accounting/Finance (audit-focused), or closely related field.

  • Level 2: Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Library or Archival Science, IT or Computer Science, Business, Law, Political Science, or Accounting/Finance (audit-focused), or closely related field, and 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in the same fields of study.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “L” security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.


Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to handle materials, manipulate tools, type on a keyboard, reach with hands and arms, and operate job‑related equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds without assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Job Information:

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Information Governance Specialist to work on our Privacy, FOIA, and STI team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Research and Education Campus with every other Friday off.



  • The pay range for this position is: Level 1 ($47,424 - $92,568) / Level 2 ($57,444 - $112,068). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre‑employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
