Job summary

U.S. Army Medical Corps seeks an Infectious Disease Officer to study and combat infectious diseases affecting Soldiers and civilian populations. You will engage in research to diagnose, treat and prevent transmission, including addressing biological threats in military and community settings.

Qualifications

• Must hold MD or DO.
• Board certification or eligibility in Infectious Disease.
• Completed ACGME/AOA residency in Internal Medicine.
• Completed ACGME/AOA fellowship in Infectious Disease.
• Valid, unrestricted medical license in US, Puerto Rico, or Canada.
• US citizenship required for Active Duty service.
• Permanent US residency required for Army Reserve.

Responsibilities

• Study the causes, effects and patterns of infectious diseases including biological threats.
• Conduct research to confirm, diagnose, treat and control transmission of infectious diseases.
• Participate in humanitarian missions addressing disease spread and public health.
• Support Soldiers and communities while serving in the U.S. Army Medical Corps.

Job description

The work of a U.S. Army Infectious Disease Officer provides information and research about infectious diseases to benefit the Army.

As an Infectious Disease Officer, you’ll be responsible for studying the causes, effects, and patterns of infectious diseases, including biological warfare threats. Through research, you will work to confirm, diagnose, treat and control the transmission of infectious diseases within the military and communities you support. You will participate in humanitarian missions to address the spread of infectious diseases and find new ways to prevent them.

Eligibility Requirements

• Must have: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
• Must have: Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Infectious Disease (via the American Board of Internal Medicine - ABIM, or the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine - AOBIM)
• Must have: Completed an ACGME or AOA accredited residency in Internal Medicine
• Must have: Completed an ACGME or AOA accredited fellowship in Infectious Disease
• Must have: A valid, unrestricted medical license in the U.S., Puerto Rico, or Canada
• Must have a U.S. citizenship to serve Active Duty
• Must have a permanent U.S. residency for Army Reserve
