Job summary

Children’s Minnesota seeks a full-time Pediatric Infectious Disease physician to join a nine-physician group and two nurse practitioners. The role includes inpatient and outpatient consultations for children with acute and chronic infections across Minnesota and western Wisconsin, with collaboration among hospitalists, emergency medicine, and subspecialists.

The ID team partners with Immunology and antimicrobial stewardship, and contributes to perinatal HIV care.

Qualifications

  • MD/DO with Minnesota Medical License or eligibility.
  • Completion of an ACGME‑accredited Pediatric Infectious Diseases fellowship.
  • Board Certification/Board Eligibility in Pediatric Infectious Diseases (ABP).

Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient and outpatient ID consultations for hospitalized children.
  • Collaborate with hospitalists, emergency medicine, and subspecialists.
  • Participate in Antimicrobial Stewardship initiatives and guideline development.
  • Support the Hematology/Oncology team with infectious disease interfaces for CAR‑T therapy.

Position Summary

The Infectious Disease Program at Children’s Minnesota is seeking a full-time Pediatric Infectious Disease physician to join their experienced group. The Pediatric Infectious Disease program includes 9 dedicated physicians and 2 dynamic nurse practitioners and boasts a strong collaborative approach where clinical practice, decision making, and sub-sub-specialty interests are encouraged. The ID program cares for children with acute and chronic infectious disorders in the greater area of Minnesota and western Wisconsin, as well as those referred to from eastern North Dakota and northern Iowa.

The Pediatric Infectious Disease group practices at the two hospital-based sites of Children’s Minnesota in Minneapolis and St. Paul, which include large neonatal and pediatric ICUs, and a large and growing Cardiovascular ICU, with a heart transplant program. Additionally, Children’s is home to Minnesota’s primary perinatal and pediatric HIV care program.

Providers are responsible for inpatient and outpatient infectious disease consultations, and ongoing care for patients with a broad variety of acute and chronic infectious conditions. Work collaboratively with talented hospitalist medicine and emergency medicine providers along with a full complement of pediatric medical and surgical specialists. Additional partners include a robust Immunology program, which includes 3 physicians and 1 nurse practitioner.

The Pediatric Infectious Disease group serves as principal participants in the Antimicrobial Stewardship program, which includes 1 dedicated provider from the team, a dedicated Pediatric Infectious Disease PharmD and a multidisciplinary working committee. The ID group also works closely with the Infection Prevention and Control team, with one dedicated provider that provides clinical consultative expertise. The group also works closely with the Value and Clinical Excellence department by engaging in quality improvement projects including clinical guideline development. The Children’s Hematology and Oncology program is expanding to CAR-T therapy in the coming years, and particular expertise and interest in the infectious disease interface with these patients is desired.

License/Certification/Registration
  • MD/DO with a current Minnesota Medical License or the ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to be successfully credentialed by both Hospital and 3rd Party Payers.
Education
  • M.D., D.O. or equivalent degree from another country.
  • Completion of an ACGME Accredited Fellowship program.
  • Board Certification/Board Eligibility in Pediatric Infectious Diseases through the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP)
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Clinical competency and expertise in caring for hospitalized children.
  • Strong understanding of examination methodologies and diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of common medication, side effects and contraindications.
  • In-depth knowledge of legal medical guidelines and medicine best practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Respect for patient's confidentiality.
  • Compassionate and approachable.
  • Responsible and trustworthy.

The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. Annual salaries displayed are based on full-time employment (40 standard hrs per week). Annual salaries for part-time positions will be prorated based on the employee’s scheduled weekly hours in relation to the full-time standard. When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs.
