Job summary

Luther Park Community in Des Moines, IA is seeking an Infection Preventionist (RN) to lead our infection prevention and control program. You will educate staff, residents and visitors while ensuring compassionate, quality care across long-term and memory care services.

The role coordinates surveillance, audits, NHSN reporting, and on-call rotation, with a focus on CMS/CDC guidelines, staff training, and policy development on an on-site campus that includes Trinity Center.

Qualifications

• Must be a Licensed Registered Nurse who currently possesses a valid license in good standing in the state of Iowa.
• Minimum of 1-3 years of RN experience, preferably in a long-term care setting.
• Previous infection prevention experience preferred.
• Complete CMS/CDC Nursing Home Infection Preventionist Training Course within 6 months of employment.
• BLS certification required.
• Must be able to relate positively to residents, families, and regulators and work cooperatively with staff.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement an ongoing infection prevention and control program.
• Establish facility-wide systems for infection reporting, identification, reporting, investigation, and control.
• Develop and implement written policies and procedures per current infection prevention standards.
• Oversee resident care activities with infection risk.
• Complete infection control audits for staff and NHSN reporting.
• Coordinate vaccination clinics and on-site surveillance rounds.
• Attend daily huddles and participate in on-call rotation.
• Mentor nursing personnel across campus and support campus-wide infection control efforts.

Job Summary

• The position will primarily be located and assigned at the Trinity Center at Luther Park Community in Des Moines. The Trinity Center is a 120 bed facility with 60 of those being CCDI beds. The position will also support infection control and prevention efforts at the Independent Living and Assisted Living communities located on the shared campus as needed.
• The Infection Preventionist responsibilities will be to leadand implement the infection prevention and control program to control thespread of infections and/or outbreaks by providing education to staff,residents and visitors as needed. This position will be responsible forinstructing and supervising nursing personnel and comply with establishedpolicies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement an ongoing infection prevention and control program to prevent, recognize and control the onset and spread of infections.
• Establish facility-wide systems for the prevention, identification, reporting, investigation, and control of infections and communicable diseases of residents, staff, and visitors.
• Develop and implement written policies and procedures in accordance with current standards of practice and recognized guidelines for infection prevention and control
• Oversee resident care activities that increase the risk of infection (i.e. use and care of urinary catheters, wound care, incontinence care, skin care, medication injections).
• Complete infection control audits for new hires and other employees (hand hygiene, PPE, glucometer use, peri-care, catheter care).
• Complete weekly NHSN reporting.
• Ensure public heath is notified of reportable diseases.
• Remain current on new developments related to infection prevention and control.
• Review and/or revise the facility's infection prevention and control program, policies, and procedures.
• Coordinate and complete monthly infection control surveillance rounds in various departments (nursing, dietary, housekeeping, laundry, etc.) and bring attention to areas of concern.
• Coordinate resident and employee vaccination clinics.
• Attend daily clinical huddles and participate in the on-call rotation as the manager on duty.
• Instruct, mentor and supervise nursing personnel across campus.
• Support infection control and prevention efforts across the Luther Park Community campus as needed.

Minimum Job Requirements

• Must be Licensed Registered Nurse who currently possesses a valid license in good standing in the state of Iowa.
• Minimum of 1-3 years of RN experience, preferably in a long-term care setting.
• Previous management or supervisor experience preferred.
• Previous infection prevention experience preferred.
• Complete CMS/CDC Nursing Home Infection Preventionist Training Course within 6 months of employment.
• Knowledge of State and Federal regulations.
• BLS certification required.
• Must be able to relate positively and favorably to residents, families, and government regulators and to work cooperatively with other associates at all levels.

Pre-employment background check, physical, drug screen, and TB test are required.
