Job summary

Uvalde Memorial Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable Infection Preventionist to lead our infection prevention and control program. You’ll combine clinical expertise, data analysis, education, and collaboration to reduce infection risks hospital-wide.

Responsibilities include surveillance for HAIs, data submission to state and federal agencies, policy development, staff education, and outbreak response. A Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare field and Texas RN licensure are required; CIC preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Public Health required; master’s preferred.
• Texas RN license or appropriate healthcare credential required.
• Current BLS certification required.
• CIC certification preferred; if not certified, a IPC certification must be obtained within one year, CIC by end of year two.
• Minimum of two years of clinical experience in acute care or infection prevention.

Responsibilities

• Lead and evaluate the hospital’s Infection Prevention and Control program.
• Conduct surveillance for HAIs, analyze trends, and develop reduction strategies.
• Prepare infection data submissions to state and federal agencies.
• Investigate outbreaks and coordinate appropriate response and follow-up.
• Develop policies, surveillance plans, and educational resources.
• Educate staff on infection prevention practices (hand hygiene, PPE, isolation).
• Collaborate with Employee Health on exposure management and immunization compliance.
• Partner with departments to identify and address infection risks.
• Provide infection prevention metrics for dashboards and regulatory readiness.
