Description

Job Summary:

The Infection Preventionist, reporting to the Manager of Infection Prevention, is responsible for identifying, preventing, and controlling healthcare-related infections in compliance with established protocols. This role involves daily surveillance, data analysis, and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure a safe environment of care.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement infection prevention/control policies and procedures, including staff, provider, and patient education.
• Review, record, analyze, and report data on hospital and long-term care-acquired infections, multi-drug-resistant organisms, outbreaks, and communicable disease threats.
• Participate in various committees as directed.
• Provide infection prevention resources, information, and data to department heads, physicians, and medical staff members.
• Conduct annual risk assessments and contribute to the development of Infection Control Plans for different care settings.
• Participate in Infection Control Risk Assessments for construction and renovation projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
• In collaboration with the Manager, investigate communicable diseases and HAI’s and report findings to the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) as required for both Acute Care and Extended Care Facilities.
  
  

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Completed post-secondary education in a health-related field including but not limited to medicine, nursing, laboratory technology, public health, or biology.

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of relevant professional experience (required); One (1) year in Infection Control (preferred).

LICENSES & CERTIFICATION: Certified Infection Control (CIC) (preferred) or eligible based on experience: at least one (1) year full-time or two (2) years part-time in Infection Control OR 3000 hours of Infection Control experience during the past three (3) years.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail
• Knowledge of Infection Control protocols and regulatory standards

• Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist and reach
• Moderate lifting – 15-44 lbs.
