Majestic Care of Avon is seeking an Infection Prevention Staff Development Nurse (IPSD) to join our team. The IPSD will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the community’s infection control and staff development program while performing clinical tasks.

The role includes creating orientation programs, ensuring training compliance, coordinating OSHA and infection control activities, and supporting nursing staff on the floor during staffing shortages.

Qualifications

• Current LPN or RN license by the State Board of Nursing; active and in good standing.
• CPR teaching certificate is required.
• Able to push, pull and lift at least 25 pounds.
• Experience in long-term care or geriatric populations preferred.
• Two years nursing experience with Infection Control training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure care team members receive compliance training and education.
• Document training per state, federal, and compliance requirements.
• Monitor performance and address compliance issues.
• Develop and conduct clinical orientation with HR for new staff.
• Provide hands-on clinical orientation and instruction to licensed and unlicensed staff.
• Coordinate CPR training for the team.
• Assess resident needs and design training programs for staff.
• Work with DNS to ensure nursing staff competency.
• Support floor coverage during staffing shortages as needed.
• Collect, analyze, and report infection data and trends to staff.
• Consult on infection risk assessment, prevention, and control strategies.
• Ensure infection control reports identify infection types and trends.
• Assist in department budget and OSHA/Risk Management documentation.
• Ensure educational curriculum meets requirements and plan in-service programs.
• Train CNAs and coordinate Relias usage for new staff.

Position Overview:

The IPSD assesses, plans, organizes, implements, evaluates, and coordinates the community’s infection control and staff development program while performing clinical tasks and assisting in other departments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure that care team members receive compliance training and education necessary to perform their job responsibilities in accordance with the company’s Code of Conduct.

• Ensure that documentation for all training is completed in accordance with state, federal, and compliance requirements.

• Monitor care team member performance and take necessary action for compliance issues.

• Develop and conduct a clinical orientation program in collaboration with the HR Manager for new and rehired care team members.

• Provide hands-on clinical orientation and instruction to licensed, unlicensed and certified care team members.

• Conduct or coordinate new care team member job training and CPR training.

• Assess resident needs in relation to staff abilities and design appropriate training programs.

• Work with the Director of Nursing Services (DNS) ensuring clinical competency of nursing staff through observed skills evaluation and conduct annual competency assessments for licensed nursing staff and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).

• As a member of the IDT team and to ensure the care and needs of our residents are met, you may be required to support our nursing care team members by working the floor (i.e. working a med cart, providing direct resident care, wound care, etc.) during critical staffing levels.

• Collect, analyze, and provide infection data and trends to nursing staff and health care practitioners.

• Consult on infection risk assessment, prevention, and control strategies.

• Ensure the community’s infection control reports describe the types of infections and are used to identify trends and patterns.

• Assist in department budget preparation and contain expenditures within budget.

• Conduct and coordinate with HR Manager OSHA/Risk Management program with oversight of documentation requirements.

• Ensure the educational curriculum in the community meets or exceeds state, federal, and accreditation requirements.

• Plan and conduct state and federally required in-service programs.

• Conduct certification or training programs for Nursing Assistants.

• Coordinate and track Relias utilization by adding new care team members as well as removing care team members who are no longer employed.

• Collaborates with HR Manager and Maintenance Director to provide annual OSHA required trainings.

• Assess and ensure there is an adequate supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) is readily available to care team members.

Qualifications:

• Current LPN or RN license by State Board of Nursing in state employed; license must be active, valid, and in good standing.

• Valid CPR teaching certificate.

• Must be able to push, pull and lift a minimum of 25 pounds

• Experience in the long-term care or working with the geriatric population preferred.

• Must have at least two years nursing experience with training in Infection Control; preferred.
