Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System Corporation is seeking an Infection Prevention specialist to conduct HAI surveillance, investigate sources of infection, and monitor exposure risks. You will coordinate infection prevention activities, educate staff, and maintain relevant policies across the institution.

The role involves compiling data, preparing periodic infection reports, and collaborating with hospital committees to reduce HAI and transmission risk.

Qualifications

• Degree from an accredited School of Nursing, Medical Technology, or a related field or equivalent.
• Current license in Maryland as a Registered Nurse or certification as Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
• At least two (2) years of clinical experience.

Responsibilities

• Review culture and sensitivity reports to set surveillance priorities.
• Perform prevalence rounds and focused review of infection rates.
• Prepare reports on infection rates and identify trends.
• Follow up on infection control issues and help resolve negative trends.
• Identify and report HAI monthly data in NHSN as required by Maryland.
• Collect data and present HAI data to Infection Control Committee.
• Identify reportable conditions (e.g., tuberculosis) and report to local Health Department.
• Communicate significant infections to units and outside facilities as needed.
• Provide infection prevention education to nursing and medical staff regularly.
• Assist clinical staff in developing infection control policies and procedures.
• Collaborate on vaccination programs and post-exposure management for infectious disease exposures.
• Participate in collaboratives and performance improvement initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
