Job description

The Infection Prevention Specialist supports the planning and development of infection prevention activities across the organization to control the transmission of infectious agents. Working under general supervision, this role assists with infection prevention and control components, including conducting surveillance, assisting with investigations of outbreaks, educating healthcare providers, and consulting with healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

1. Supports the implementation of infection prevention and control strategies related to controlling the transmission of infectious agents.
2. Participates in investigations of clusters of infections, outbreaks, unusual infections, or exposures, and epidemiologic studies as needed.
3. Supports the development of processes for timely collection, analysis, and reporting of infection surveillance data, and assists in process improvements.
4. Utilizes appropriate Quality Assurance monitoring activities to address potential infection risks for patients or employees.
5. Reports reportable diseases to public health departments and responds to inquiries.
6. Performs apparent cause analysis to identify modifiable risk factors and infection prevention opportunities.
7. Maintains a knowledge base of current Infection Prevention and Control information through networking, literature, and professional meetings.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's Degree required. Graduate of BSN program, Bachelor's in Medical Technology or related health field.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience; experience in Infection Control/Prevention preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: Current NC license if applicable. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within 3 years.
