Rutgers University Correctional Health Care seeks an Infection Control Nurse for the Southern Region in New Jersey. The role focuses on implementing and evaluating the statewide infection control program, with emphasis on HIV/AIDS-infected inmates within NJDOC, ensuring a safe environment for inmates and staff.

Duties include identifying high-risk inmates, coordinating access to care, counseling, discharge planning, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives across the statewide

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a RN license to practice in New Jersey.
• Minimum of 2 years of documented clinical nursing experience.
• Valid Driver’s License and own transportation to travel among sites.

Responsibilities

• Identifies and assesses inmates with HIV/AIDS diagnosed individuals, high-risk inmates, and inmates seeking HIV counseling/education.
• Plans and coordinates access to primary medical care by scheduling routine tests/procedures, managing case load, and updating labs and medications under physician supervision.
• Serves as a resource on infectious disease and infection control within the site.
• Provides HIV pre/post testing counseling as needed.
• Performs discharge planning for HIV-infected inmates.
• Assists in developing and updating statewide infection control quality improvement efforts.
• Implements surveillance to evaluate staff practices and infection control policies.
