Job description

Job Title: Infant/Toddler Teacher (Part time AM or PM)

Location: Batavia, IL

Job Type: Full Time

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Center Director and Director delegate, the Early Childhood teacher acts as an integral member of the Kings and Queens Children Academy team to assist in the overall management of day-to-day supervision and operations of children through the conscientious application of Kings and Queens Children Academy standards and DCFS standards.

Essential Functions:
  1. Plans and implements enriched programs in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice and program philosophy.
  2. Leads children in activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, demonstrating the use of simple musical instruments, preparing craft materials and demonstrating their use and providing opportunities for creative expression.
  3. Takes a leadership role in the classroom and provides excellent supervision and interaction with children at all times including in all classroom, sleep room, outside and playground activities.
  4. Observes children in their surroundings and assesses individual and group needs.
  5. Promotes open communication and works cooperatively and effectively as a team member and communicates and contributes information on a continuous basis.
  6. Meets emotional, social, physical and cognitive needs of each child in the classroom.
  7. Follows all center policies as outlined in the Staff Handbook including Behavior Management, Serious Occurrence, Technology Use, Fire Drills, Workplace Harassment and Violence and Health and Safety practices.
  8. Prepares and maintains the indoor and outdoor play areas for children’s use, including checking toys and equipment to ensure safe functioning and performing various housekeeping and sanitizing duties as required.
  9. Participates in lunch, diapering, bathroom and toilet training duties and promotes healthy and independent practices.
  10. Ensures any special dietary requirements are met.
  11. Maintains open, positive, friendly and cooperative relationships with each child’s family.
  12. Accurately performs all administrative tasks including entries for the classroom log book, center communication log book and required emergency and incident reporting in a timely manner.
  13. Maintains confidentiality.
  14. Attends monthly staff meetings and staff development workshops.
  15. Adheres to dress code; If designated, takes calls and messages in a polite, helpful manner.
  16. At times you may be asked to assist in another room.
  17. Participates in team/room meetings.
  18. Completes required training in a timely manner and attends in-services as needed.
  19. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Specifications:
  1. Must be at least 19 years of age and have earned sixty semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semesters.
  2. Or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age six; or one year (1560 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center and 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age six.
  3. Infant/Child C.P.R. and First Aid updated yearly.
  4. Knowledge of Child Care programs.
  5. High standard of professionalism.
  6. Enthusiasm for serving public ensuring that all children and clients are cared for equally and in accordance with Kings and Queens Children Academy standards.
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and respond appropriately to client and children’s needs.
  8. High energy level with a strong work ethic.
  9. Excellent organization skills to prioritize workload in order to achieve results in a constantly changing environment.
  10. Ability to safeguard confidential information.
  11. The incumbent must be capable of lifting, pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds.
  12. A criminal reference check and verification of medical suitability will be required as specified in Licensing Regulations.
