The Early Childhood Teacher is responsible for preparing and implementing developmentally appropriate educational opportunities consistent with Playful Minds’ vision and curriculum goals.

Full Time

Starting Salary Range CT: $20.00-$24.00/hour; MA: $18.00-$22.00/hour

Education & Experience
  • 3 months of experience with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field of study
  • 6 months of experience with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study
  • 9 months of experience or one practicum and have successfully completed three credits in category Child Growth and Development, or
  • Have a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, or
  • Have graduated from a twoyear high school vocational program in early childhood

education, approved by the Department for both the education and experience requirements and have been evaluated and recommended by the program instructor

  • 3 months of the required work experience must be in caregiving to preschool age children
  • InfantToddler Teachers
  • 3 months of the required work experience must be in caregiving to infants/toddlers
  • 1 continuing education unit (10 hours of instruction) in category Infant and Toddler Development, Care and Program Planning may substitute for 3 months of work experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain an appropriate and safe environment for children at all times
  • Consistently implement all licensing requirements, including but not limited to maintaining supervision ratios at all times
  • Maintain all required documentation and record keeping accurately and in a timely manner including, but not limited to, attendance records, Incident & Injury Reports, meal records and progress reports
  • Consistently follow all Playful Minds’ policies & procedures
  • Consistently attend work according to your established schedule
  • Attend all required staff meetings and trainings
  • All staff are Mandated Reporters
  • Ensure the health and safety of all children
Health & Safety
  • Maintain safety, organization and cleanliness of the classroom: includes putting away materials when not in use, washing, vacuuming and other light housekeeping tasks, keeping all dangerous materials out of children’s reach and reporting any broken equipment
  • Follow all dismissal procedures, including but not limited to, only dismissing children to approved pickup adults
  • Report any broken or unsafe equipment or toys to the Lead/Head Teacher or
Assistant Director
  • Report all health or safety related incidents, including but not limited to medical and behavioral issues, to the Lead/Head Teacher or Assistant Director
  • Administer medication to children in accordance with licensing regulations and Playful Minds policies and procedures
  • Assist with food program preparation, set up and clean up as assigned
  • Maintain awareness of, and follow guidance for, all medical conditions, including but not limited to allergies, for children in the group
Curriculum
  • Establish a classroom environment which is content and sensory rich, intentional, organized, appealing, responsive to the needs and interests of the children and approved by the Program Director
  • Through careful, documented observations, get to know the individual children in your group, including their needs, skills and interests, and individualize your teaching and interactions accordingly
  • Create developmentally appropriate, engaging lesson plans which are aligned with Playful Minds’ curriculum guidelines and tailored to the needs, skills and interests of the children in the group
  • Implement curriculum
  • Implement child guidance in accordance with Playful Minds policies and procedures, individualizing your responses based on the needs and abilities of each child
  • Create a community of inclusion and respect among the children and adults in the classroom
  • Implement the recommendations of specialists for individual support, as approved by the Program Director
  • Support the growth of all developmental skills, meeting each child where they are developmentally
  • Help children to properly utilize classroom materials
  • Create monthly bulletin boards
  • Inform Lead/Head Teacher or Assistant Director of any parent complaints
Families
  • Form a partnership with families, establishing clear lines of communication and providing consistent and accurate information to families about their individual children.
