Job summary

Commonpoint's Samuel Field Center in New York seeks an Infant/Toddler Center Support Staff Teacher. In this 19 hour per week, part-time role you support the lead teacher in guiding babies and toddlers through development activities and daily routines.

You will work closely with staff and parents to foster cognitive and social growth, nurture each child with patience and a gentle approach, and help maintain a safe, clean classroom environment consistent with program guidelines.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience caring for children 3 months–2 yrs old.
• CPR certified and trained preferred.
• Complete background check including fingerprinting and health examination.
• Pass annual professional development requirements.

Responsibilities

• Support the lead and assistant teacher in guiding babies and toddlers through education/development programs.
• Respond to each child’s needs efficiently.
• Display a patient and calm personality with a loving approach.
• Contribute to children’s behavior and social interaction.
• Build secure relationships with children and families.
• Work with staff to ensure guidelines are adhered to.
• Document the day’s events for parents.
• Report accidents, illness, and unusual behavior to lead teacher and parents.
• Give bottles to infants/toddlers as provided by parents.
• Feed infants’ solid foods as age appropriate.
• Change diapers as needed.
• Soothe infants by singing, rocking, holding or cuddling.
• Supervise infants on the floor and nap times.
• Ensure play, sleep and changing areas are kept clean.
