Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in sterilization and aseptic techniques. Knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains sanitation policy and procedures in preparation and storage areas within IFP.
  • Unpacks, receives, labels, and stores human milk, donor milk, prolacta, and formula in designated areas using FIFO.
  • Prepares feedings using aseptic technique.
  • Prepares, labels, and delivers feedings per provider's order.
  • Performs appropriate recordkeeping of daily preparation logs.
  • Assures quality of feeding preparations by maintaining cleanliness of work areas.
  • Utilizes milk tracking/scanning software for patient labeling and inventory.
  • Maintains competency in the EMR.
  • Assists in training new employees as needed.
  • Communicates with IFP Coordinator, IFP Supervisor, SCN staff regarding problems with feeding orders, human milk/formula storage, or administration.
  • Maintains on-going inventory of supplies in the Lactation Offices/Storage.
  • Practices proper safety techniques and reports any issues.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Job description

Calculates, prepares, and delivers human milk and infant formula based upon the provider's order for all infants in the Special Care Nursery. Performs inventory, completes temperature/sanitation records and schedules, operates feeding preparation equipment, maintains proper sanitation policy and procedures in Infant Feeding Prep (IFP) area, and performs quality improvement activities.

  1. Maintains sanitation policy and procedures in preparation and storage areas within IFP.
  2. Unpacks, receives, labels, and stores human milk, donor milk, prolacta, and formula in designated areas using first in, first-out (FIFO) method.
  3. Prepares feedings using aseptic technique.
  4. Prepares, labels, and delivers feedings per provider's order.
  5. Performs appropriate recordkeeping of daily preparation logs.
  6. Assures quality of feeding preparations by maintaining cleanliness of work areas, which includes, but is not limited to, refrigerators, freezers, bead baths, counter tops, floors, mixing utensils, scales, and trashcans.
  7. Utilizes milk tracking/scanning software to perform daily functions in the system: patient identification, labeling of feedings, receive expressed breastmilk, donor milk and prolacta, discharging patients and products out of the system, and inventory control.
  8. Maintains competency in the use of the EMR.
  9. Assists in training new employees as needed.
  10. Communicates with IFP Coordinator, IFP Supervisor, SCN staff regarding problem with feeding orders, human milk/formula storage, or administration.
  11. Maintains on-going inventory of supplies in the Lactation Offices/Storage.
  12. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injuryaccident to IFP Coordinator or Supervisor.
  13. Performs additional duties as assigned.
REQUIRED
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
PREFERRED
  1. One (1) year of experience as an Infant Feeding Prep Tech.
  2. Completion of Ohio State University: Infant Feeding Technician Certification Course within 2 years of hire date.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of basic computer skills.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge and skill in sterilization and aseptic techniques. Knowledge of medical terminology.
