  • Build trusting relationships with infants and communicate with families about milestones.

General Position Description

The Infant Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher and Center Director in creating a warm, responsive, and secure environment for infants (ages 6 weeks to 12 months). This role focuses on meeting each infant’s individual needs through nurturing care, one-on-one interactions, and age-appropriate routines. Assistant Teachers work collaboratively to ensure that each child receives consistent attention and affection, fostering healthy physical, social-emotional, and cognitive development.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in implementing responsive routines and age-appropriate sensory and motor activities for infants.

  • Actively supervise and engage with infants during feeding, diapering, tummy time, and interactive play.

  • Attend to infants’ basic needs, including bottle-feeding, diapering, and comforting as needed.

  • Prepare and serve bottles and infant meals in accordance with feeding schedules and health guidelines.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitized classroom environment that meets licensing and safety standards.

  • Monitor infants for signs of illness, developmental concerns, or discomfort and communicate observations to the Lead Teacher.

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with infants and communicate daily with families about feeding, sleeping, and milestones.

  • Provide a calm, nurturing atmosphere that supports emotional security and individualized care.

  • Adhere to all center policies, licensing regulations, and confidentiality standards.

  • Participate in required staff meetings, training, and professional development.

  • Ensure consistency for infants by maintaining good attendance and dependable routines.

  • Step into Lead Teacher responsibilities in their absence as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to support collaboration with families and coworkers.

Education & Experience
  • Experience working with infants in a group care setting preferred.

  • Certification in pediatric first aid and CPR.

  • Pass criminal background check and required health screenings.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to engage in active care, including frequently lifting children, kneeling, bending, and participating in floor-based play.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, nurturing environment with exposure to common childhood illnesses.
