Ingram Barge Company is seeking entry level and experienced deckhands to join our inland waterways operations. You may be assigned to any river segment or vessel type based on company needs. You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from hitch locations and must comply with safety standards.

  • Must obtain a valid TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
  • Must be able to read and write English to comply with USCG requirements.
  • Ability to work away from home for extended hitchs (14, 21 or 28 days).
  • Be able to lift and carry up to 110 pounds.
  • Be able to work in confined spaces and climb ladders.

Responsibilities

  • Assist deck crew in tow building and rigging handling.
  • Conduct daily vessel housekeeping and cleaning crew living quarters.
  • Assist with locking and watchkeeping duties as assigned.
  • Carry rigging, pumps, hoses, and lines during operations.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Check barges for water and leaks, sometimes in confined spaces.
  • Support the engineer and participate in safety drills and audits.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Description

Are you ready to navigate your way toward a new career? Ingram Barge Company is looking to bring both entry level and experienced deckhands onboard.

You may be assigned to any river segment or vessel type based upon Company needs at time of your hire. As an Ingram associate, you will be reliable for your own transportation to and from your hitches.

  • Assisting deck crew in tow building (laying wires, tighten ratchets, sweep and shovel barges)
  • Daily vessel housekeeping (sweeping, mopping and cleaning crew living quarters)
  • Assisting with locking
  • Carrying rigging (ratchets, wires and straps), pumps, hoses and lines
  • Working outdoors for extended periods of time in weather conditions such as heat/cold & rain/snow
  • Checking barges for water and leaks – which at times requires climbing into confined spaces
  • Upkeep of vessel appearance includes sooging (washing), chipping and painting
  • Assisting the Engineer as requested
  • Practicingsafe crew, vessel and tow operation using Ingram safety systems
  • Participating in safety drills and audits
  • Performing other related duties as assigned or requested

  • Must obtain a valid TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).We do not accept receipts from renewals, first time applicants only.
  • Pass a post-offer process if an offer is made (background check, drug screen, physical)
  • Be able to lift and carry up to 110 pounds for up to 1000 feet
  • Be able to work in confined spaces often entered through a manhole
  • Be able to climb a ladder and able to board and ride in a skiff
  • Drivers License Preferred
