Job summary

JHR in Indianapolis, IN seeks a hands-on race car technician responsible for the preparation, operation, and safety of our race cars. You will work closely with the Chief Mechanic and engineering staff to ensure performance and safety in a fast-paced racing environment.

This role requires strong leadership, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to thrive under pressure. Extensive domestic travel is required to support race events and team operations.

Job Description

This position plays a crucial role in the preparation, operation, and safety of our race cars. You will work closely with the Chief Mechanic and engineering staff to ensure the highest standards of performance, safety, and technical precision. This is a dynamic, hands‑on role that demands technical expertise, strong leadership, and the ability to thrive under pressure in a fast‑paced racing environment.

Essential Responsibilities
Race Car Preparation & Operation
  • Oversee the meticulous preparation and operation of the race car to ensure peak performance during race events.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Mechanic to build race cars to spec, adhering to build and setup sheets.
  • Maintain and execute daily, weekly, and monthly build and service schedules.
Technical Expertise & Safety
  • Ensure race cars are functioning properly, safe, and meet all technical specifications.
  • Identify potential safety hazards and report risks to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Assist in managing the inventory and loading of equipment, spare parts, and other essential items onto the transporter.
  • Help fellow team members with other duties as necessary to ensure team success.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area at all times.
Required Qualifications
Experience & Skills
  • Proven mechanical experience within motorsport, preferably within open‑wheel racing.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with the engineering and mechanical teams.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem‑solving abilities in high‑pressure environments.
Travel & Work Schedule
  • Must be available for extensive domestic travel.
  • Willingness to work outside of traditional hours, including weekends and extended hours during race events
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Indy NXT or similar race car platforms.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and setup sheets.
  • Familiarity with safety standards in motorsport environments.
