Job summary

Westerman, Inc. in Catoosa, OK is seeking an entry-level Welder Apprentice to develop basic welding skills and progress within the department.

You will set up MIG or Flux Core welding, assist welders, read blueprints, pass pre-employment welding tests, and work a day shift with Monday–Friday schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Welding Certificate and/or 1-6 months of previous welding or equivalent knowledge required.
• Must have some basic welding knowledge.
• Must be able to pass weld skill pre-employment assessment.
• Practice and pass basic ASME welder performance qualification tests.
• Intermediate math skills and ability to read a tape measure required.
• Must be able to distinguish between part numbers and sizes required.
• Must be able to count and label parts accurately.
• Must be able to learn pressure gauges and how to read them.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Regular and punctual attendance is required.
• Sets up welding machine to MIG or Flux Core wire as needed to meet production and quality standards.
• Assists Welders in fit up, grinding, cutting, and equipment setup.
• Assists in layout of tanks and pressure vessel parts.
• Safely operates and performs SMAW, GMAW or SAW duties.
• Safely operates various hand/air/power tools.
• Learns to properly identify and document vessel parts/components.
• Assists assigned mentor as necessary.
• Inspects and welds all parts ensuring there are no welding flaws, discontinuities, or defects with mentor’s guidance.
• Completes 90-day checklist.
• Complies with the 5 As of performance (Attendance, Attitude, Adaptability, Accident-free, and Accountability).
• Follows all safety policies and procedures.
• Organizes work area with instruction from group leaders to meet production demands.
• Other duties as required and assigned.
