Job summary

Westerman, Inc. is seeking an apprentice welder to develop first-level welding skills with the goal of placement within a department within six months. The role emphasizes self-motivation, strong work ethic, and meeting quality standards.

The position involves setup of MIG/Flux Core welds, assistive tasks for Welders, and adherence to safety practices. On-site work at the Oklahoma facility with standard day shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Welding Certificate and/or 1-6 months of welding knowledge required; basic welding knowledge preferred.
• Must pass weld skill pre-employment assessment.
• ASME welder performance qualification tests recommended.
• Intermediate math skills and ability to read a tape measure required.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Sets up welding machine to MIG or Flux Core to meet production and quality standards.
• Assists Welders in fit up, grinding, cutting, and equipment setup.
• Assists in layout of tanks and pressure vessel parts.
• Safely operates SMAW, GMAW or SAW welding processes.
• Safely uses various hand, air, and power tools.
• Learns to identify and document vessel parts/components.
• Works with mentor to complete tasks and training.
• Inspects welds to ensure no defects with mentor guidance.
• Completes 90-day onboarding checklist.

SUMMARY

This is an apprentice level role for establishing the skills of first level welders who have limited welding skills or a certificate from a welding school. It is expected most individuals hired into this position will proceed to their departmental placement within 6 months or less. A successful candidate is self-motivated and utilizes a strong work ethic to ensure all quality levels are met and career progression is established.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Regular and punctual attendance at work is an essential job function of each position and is necessary to your individual effectiveness and that of your work group. Regular and punctual attendance is required of all employees.

• Sets up welding machine to MIG or Flux Core wire as needed to meet production and quality standards.
• Assists Welders in fit up, grinding, cutting, and equipment setup.
• Assists in layout of tanks and pressure vessel parts.
• Safely operates and performs SMAW, GMAW or SAW duties.
• Safely operates various hand/air/power tools.
• Learns to properly identify and document vessel parts/components.
• Assists assigned mentor as necessary.
• Inspects and welds all parts ensuring there are no welding flaws, discontinuities, or defects with mentors guidance.
• Completes 90-day checklist.
• Complies with the 5 As of performance (Attendance, Attitude, Adaptability, Accident-free, and Accountability).
• Follows all safety policies and procedures.
• Organizes work area with instruction from group leaders to meet production demands.
• Other duties as required and assigned.

SALARY

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be able to distinguish between part numbers and sizes required.
• Must be able to count and label parts accurately.
• Must be able to learn pressure gauges and how to read them.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints strongly preferred.
