Job summary

The City of Santa Rosa is seeking an Environmental Compliance Inspector III to lead advanced pretreatment inspections within the Water Department. You will enforce local, state, and federal pretreatment rules, inspect industrial dischargers, review plans, collect samples, and determine required permits.

Ideal candidates will have proven experience in industrial wastewater pretreatment, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate findings clearly to staff and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Experience in an industrial wastewater pretreatment program, including regulation updates.
• Ability to interpret complex wastewater discharge permits and requirements.
• Strong attention to detail, self-motivated, and thorough in inspections and reporting.
• Experience delivering formal presentations and coordinating with stakeholders.
• Knowledge of building plans and pretreatment code compliance.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and implement applicable sewer and pretreatment regulations.
• Inspect industrial/commercial dischargers to ensure compliance.
• Evaluate wastewater discharges and prepare permits for facilities.
• Develop and implement pollution prevention programs and reports.
• Maintain inspection records and enforce non-compliance actions.
• Respond to spills and complaints; coordinate with stakeholders.
• Review development plans for compliance with discharge requirements.
• Conduct sampling programs and laboratory tests for compliance.
• Track discharge volumes and loadings for billing and data collection.
