Job summary

City of Austin seeks an Industrial Utility Electrician II to perform journeyman-level electrical repairs and installations on 1000V to 15KV motors, motor controls, substations, and lighting across industrial utility facilities and remote sites.

The role requires expertise with high-voltage equipment, coordination for outages, and ability to work under varying weather conditions. On-call duties and overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required, plus two years of journeyman-level electrician experience installing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing medium-voltage electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Performs complex electrical diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on substation switchgear and distribution equipment.
• Repairs and installs electrical distribution equipment including conduit, breakers, panel boards, transformers, switches and receptacles.
• Maintains and troubleshoots lighting systems, battery banks, and motor control systems.
• Coordinates 15KV switching for maintenance, outages, and during weather events.
• Maintains records of maintenance activities using CMMS and other software.
