Qualifications

Airbus Aerosystems Kinston is looking for an Industrial System Engineer to join our team based in Kinston NC.


The position holder is accountable for defining, developing and implementing Composite Technology solutions to address production program challenges, ensuring that production lines meet cost, quality and schedule targets. The position holder should be able to provide innovative research and development in Composite Technology that will improve Kinston Plant industrial performance.

Your Working Environment

The Airbus Aerosystems Kinston facility sits at the forefront of aerospace manufacturing, specializing in the production of large, advanced composite aerostructures. Our team builds critical components for the state-of-the-art Airbus A350 XWB, including the composite center fuselage and wing spar.

Your Challenges

Industrial Performance (35%)


  • Provide mature and robust Composite solutions to the production teams, improving efficiency and effectiveness of the Kinston Plant.

  • Assess and evaluate Composite product performance, process performance and manufacturing viability.

  • Become a key player influencing Kinston Industrial Strategy, leading change in Composite manufacturing influencing the 'Factory of the Future'.

  • Be involved in industrial projects to assess the impact of Composite manufacturing, influencing the design of the future Kinston Industrial System.

  • Contribute to Industrial System design and development on existing and future programs.

  • Support key industrialization projects with Production Line design skills and competencies, to ensure project outcomes are delivering tangible benefits and long term performance.

  • Deliver mature and robust Composite solutions and produce required supporting documentation.


Process Development (35%)


  • Evaluate and challenge current and future industrial solutions and provide recommendations to stakeholders.

  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes for aerostructures.

  • Develop Composite manufacturing ways of working, in response to the business priorities.

  • Create and maintain accurate documentation of processes, procedures, and standards.

  • Conduct time studies, work sampling, and process flow analysis for Composite materials production.

  • Develop Composite Design & Modelling standards to present potential improvement to industrial communities.

  • Develop and implement non-destructive inspection technology for composite materials.

  • Maintain, analyze and amend geometric dimensioning and tolerancing for Composite material production.

  • Contribute to the definition of Kinston Plant industrial architecture.


Continuous Improvement (20%)


  • Analyze existing manufacturing processes and identify areas for improvement.

  • Design and implement efficient production workflows to maximize productivity.

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to optimize resource utilization.

  • Identify opportunities for automation or technological advancements in manufacturing.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Analyze data to identify trends and recommend action plans for process optimization.

  • Maintain a strong focus on quality control throughout the manufacturing process.


Additional Responsibilities (10%)

Other duties as assigned:



  • Serve as a subject matter expert in composite production improvement initiatives.

  • Serve as the primary focal point for leading composite manufacturing changes to influence the Industrial System.

  • Lead production team training for new composite project implementation.

  • Provide training and guidance to production personnel on new composite project implementation and best practices.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the HO Manufacturing Technology & Continuous Improvement.


Your Boarding Pass


  • Bachelor's degree in ABET accredited Engineering or Engineering Technology.

  • 2 to 4 years experience in Manufacturing / Industrial Engineering with strong knowledge of Composite materials and their fabrication processes.

  • Operational experience in the Implementation of Composite materials technology in an industrial environment.

  • Sound knowledge of Industrial Performance Management.

  • Autonomy and ability to influence, lead the change and deal with transformation processes in an international environment.

  • Knowledge of development of composite materials and its integration into the Industrial System.

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills: listening, negotiation, conflict management, communication and intercultural skills in an international context.

  • Ability to deploy Project Management processes, methods and tools.

  • Able to share best practices within the Manufacturing Engineering community (including feedback and lessons learnt), thereby contributing to the development of a project management culture.

  • Experience of lean manufacturing / continuous improvement environments.

  • Self-driven with a 'can-do' attitude.

  • Excellent command of English (spoken & written).

  • Have the ability to work in an international team.

  • Must possess excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.

  • Must be able to present clear and concise briefings and reports to customers and executives.

  • Working knowledge of Manufacturing Engineering tool sets (SAP, MES Etc).

  • Proficient with 3D CAD.

  • Adept with Google and/or Microsoft Office.

  • Knowledge of SAP transactions.

  • Working knowledge and application of Business Management Systems (BMS) and Quality Management Systems (QMS).

  • 10% Domestic and International travel.


Preferred


  • Masters Degree preferred.

  • General knowledge of FAA, EASA and ICAO preferred.

Physical Requirements


  • Onsite - Aligned with the Airbus Hybrid working policy.

  • Vision: Daily able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.

  • Hearing: Able to hear daily to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.

  • Speaking: Daily able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.

  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): Daily able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.

  • Carrying: Occasionally able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.

  • Lifting: Occasionally able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.

  • Pushing / Pulling: Occasionally able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.

  • Sitting: Daily able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.

  • Squatting / Kneeling: Occasionally able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.

  • Standing: Daily able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.

  • Travel: 5% able to travel independently and at short notice.

  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): Daily able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.

  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site.

  • Administrative position only PPE required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the production floor.
