Job summary

Job Description

Airbus Aerosystems Kinston is looking for a Process Engineer to join our engineering department based in Kinston, NC.

The Kinston Plant Manufacturing Engineering organization ensures that plant assets and tooling are employed with the latest, up‑to‑date technology in plant operations, through an environment fully utilizing continuous improvement techniques.

The position holder is accountable for providing administrative and technical assistance around the industrial system methods and products to the Production Teams, with the aim of optimizing the industrial process, whilst observing safety, cost, quality and lead‑time criteria.

Supporting the performance and ramp‑up of Kinston plant programs through the implementation of appropriate solutions (methods, processes and organization) to meet company requirements.

The successful candidate will need to work closely with programs customers, Front Line managers and a range of ME specialists including Industrial Systems Engineers, Process Performance Engineers, Plant Industrial Architects, Lineside Support etc. Covering manufacturing technologies, work preparation and industrial maintenance. Also working with other plant functions such as Quality, Logistics and especially the Operations teams, which will provide the opportunity to gain operations experience in an industrial environment.

Responsibilities
  • Process Optimization (45%):
    • Ensure the industrial feasibility of the Definition Dossier.
    • Create and maintain an Integrated Manufacturing Dossier from the Definition Dossier, including Standard Operating Instructions.
    • Produce detailed optimized processes with appropriate STV calculations.
    • Determine and record the Process Efficiency through assessing Value Added Time versus Non‑Value Added Time.
    • Producing PERT/GANTT diagrams to determine the industrial impacts to the Engineering teams.
  • Development Process Optimization (30%):
    • Contribute to the definition of the Kinston Plant industrial system.
    • Analyze and define the line balancing on the variety of products manufactured in Kinston Plant.
    • Analyze and optimize manufacturing systems during major mods / step changes.
    • Ensure correct configuration from definition through to production commencement.
    • Analyze and document outstanding Travelling Work with the view to minimizing/eliminating such work.
    • Communicate with stakeholders to enable the effective delivery of optimized solutions in a timely manner.
  • Continuous Improvement Activities (15%):
    • Process optimization.
    • Work Station optimization.
    • Identifying potential reduction opportunities to 'travelled work'.
    • Identifying potential improvements to Value Added production processes.
    • Implementing improvement proposals.
  • Additional Responsibilities (10%):
    • Assist training/onboarding efforts for new team members.
    • Promote a customer‑focused mindset within the Manufacturing Engineering organization.
    • Respond to and resolve technical queries from various departments and stakeholders.
    • Serve as an expert in the Industrial System build processes.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the HO TSFS.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of related experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in aviation and/or manufacturing.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office/Google Suite products.
  • Working knowledge and application of Business Management Systems (BMS) and Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Preferred general knowledge of FAA, EASA and ICAO.
  • Authorized to work in the US.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and tools used in process engineering.
  • Knowledge of basic project management concepts.
  • Knowledge of Planning Tools (e.g., AVL2, EPIQA).
  • Good teamwork and relationship‑building skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and problem‑solving ability.
  • Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service.
  • Experience in manufacturing or assembly technology implementation.
  • Excellent command of English (spoken & written).
  • Ability to work in an international team.
  • Must possess excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Working knowledge of Manufacturing Engineering tool sets (SAP, MES, etc.).
  • Google and/or Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Knowledge of SAP transactions.
  • Analytical thinker, highly detailed and task‑oriented.
  • Ability to effectively deal with problems requiring solutions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate as a member of an effective team.
Organization Information

Reports to HO ME Technical Shop Floor Support (N+1) who reports to the HO ME Kinston Plant (N+2).

Direct Reports: No

Job Dimensions: Administrative and Technical Support role covering Process Optimization within Manufacturing Engineering.

Nature of Contacts: Involved communication on a regular basis with internal parties only.

Physical Requirements

Onsite - Aligned with the Airbus Hybrid working policy.

Vision: Daily able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.

Hearing: Able to hear daily to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.

Speaking: Daily able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.

Equipment Operation: Daily able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.

Carrying: Occasionally able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs / 14kgs.

Lifting: Occasionally able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs / 14kgs.

Pushing / Pulling: Occasionally able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.

Sitting: Daily able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.

Squatting / Kneeling: Occasionally able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.

Standing: Daily able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.

Travel: 5% able to travel independently and at short notice.

Walking: Daily able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.

Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site.

Administrative position only PPE required: Steel‑toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the production floor.
