Job summary

MillerKnoll in North Carolina is seeking a dedicated sewing machine operator to run single and double needle machines, inspect parts, and maintain quality. You will follow 5S and safety guidelines while meeting production goals.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent; prior experience with sewing hidden zippers is preferred. Benefits start on day one, and you will join a team committed to design and craftsmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Operate single and double needle sewing machines to join fabric pieces.
  • Inspect parts during assembly to ensure quality criteria are met.
  • Complete daily paperwork to track production, rejects, and completed units.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization following 5S principles.
  • Make minor repairs and adjust machines as needed.
  • Report safety or equipment concerns immediately to ensure safe operations.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Operates machinery to perform single and double needle sewing operations. Exhibits initiative in daily performance to provide quality products and services that meet/exceed customer demands and maintain a quality working relationship with team members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Adjust machines to stitch various types of fabrics.
  • Complete daily paperwork to track rejects, units completed or other documentation as required.
  • Inspect parts during assembly and upon completion to assure compliance with established product quality criteria.
  • Maintain expected levels of order and cleanliness using 5 S principles.
  • Make minor repairs to assigned machines.
  • Operate industrial sewing machine to join pre-cut and upholstery pieces; align pieces to preserve grain and/or pattern.
  • Report any equipment or safety concerns immediately to assure a safe work environment.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

Education/Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous work experience sewing hidden zippers.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to operate and program sewing machines for detailed assembly work.
  • Demonstrated ability to distinguish between colors of thread or fabric, fabric grains and patterns.
  • Good hand-eye coordination, concentration skills, and demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Basic math, reading and communication skills.
  • Ability to rapidly manipulate small parts and use power hand tools.
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
