Job summary

MillerKnoll in Pennsylvania is hiring a manufacturing sewing operator. You will operate machines to perform single and double needle sewing, assemble upholstery pieces, and ensure products meet quality standards. The role rewards initiative, teamwork, and safe, efficient work in a fast-paced environment.

Ideal candidates have a High School diploma or equivalent, ability to lift 55 lbs, and good hand–eye coordination with attention to detail. Overtime may be required.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to operate sewing machines for detailed assembly work.
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs and perform repetitive motions.
  • Good eye–hand coordination and attention to detail.
  • Basic math, reading, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a flexible environment and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Set up machines for stitching and adjust for fabric types.
  • Monitor quality and inspect parts during assembly.
  • Maintain 5S cleanliness and order in the workspace.
  • Make minor repairs to assigned sewing machines.
  • Join pre-cut upholstery pieces, aligning grain and pattern.
  • Complete daily paperwork for production tracking.
  • Report equipment or safety concerns immediately.
  • Perform additional duties to meet business goals.
  • Avoid downtime and support team as needed.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Operates machinery to perform single and double needle sewing operations. Exhibits initiative in daily performance to provide quality products and services that meet/exceed customer demands and maintain a quality working relationship with team members.

Essential Functions
  • Adjust machines to stitch various types of fabrics.
  • Complete daily paperwork to track rejects, units completed or other documentation as required.
  • Inspect parts during assembly and upon completion to assure compliance with established product quality criteria.
  • Maintain expected levels of order and cleanliness using 5 S principles.
  • Make minor repairs to assigned machines.
  • Operate industrial sewing machine to join pre-cut and upholstery pieces; align pieces to preserve grain and/or pattern.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested.
  • Report any equipment or safety concerns immediately to assure a safe work environment.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
Skills and Abilities:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and program sewing machines for detailed assembly work.
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs. and perform repetitive motions of bending, pushing, grasping, and pulling.
  • Demonstrated ability to distinguish between colors of thread or fabric, fabric grains and patterns.
  • Good hand-eye coordination, concentration skills, and demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Basic math, reading and communication skills.
  • Ability to rapidly manipulate small parts and use power hand tools.
  • Proven ability to work in a flexible work environment and adapt to overtime requirements as needed.
