Job Title: Pattern Cutter/Industrial Sewing Machine Operator

Department: Upholstery 45

Reports To: Upholstery Supervisor

Location: Elkhorn, WI

Position Summary

The Pattern Cutter / Industrial Sewing Machine Operator plays a critical role within Palmer Hamilton’s Upholstery Department by cutting, sewing, and assembling upholstered fabric components for custom furniture products. This position ensures precision, durability, and consistent quality in finished upholstered items, supporting Palmer Hamilton’s reputation for craftsmanship and design excellence. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, skilled in industrial sewing and pattern cutting, and takes pride in producing high-quality work in a fast-paced, team-oriented manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Pattern Cutting & Sewing Operations
  • Pattern, cut, and sew upholstered furniture fabrics for a variety of custom furniture products.
  • Operate industrial sewing machines and related upholstery equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Assemble and stitch materials using appropriate sewing techniques to ensure strength, durability, and quality finish.
  • Follow work instructions, patterns, and production specifications to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Quality Control & Rework
  • Inspect fabric components and finished pieces for defects or quality concerns.
  • Perform repairs and rework on products that do not meet specifications.
  • Ensure finished upholstered components meet appearance, fit, and durability standards.
Material Handling & Workflow Support
  • Move fabrics, materials, and finished products throughout the department to support efficient workflow.
  • Package finished products for shipment or storage as required.
  • Maintain organized workstations and proper storage of materials and tools.
Equipment Care & Maintenance
  • Perform routine cleaning, minor maintenance, and basic troubleshooting on sewing and cutting equipment.
  • Report equipment issues promptly to supervision to minimize downtime.
Teamwork & Communication
  • Collaborate with team members to meet production goals and deadlines.
  • Communicate quality issues, material concerns, or process challenges promptly to supervisors or team leads.
  • Support cross-training and assist with other departmental tasks as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, And Competencies
  • Experience operating industrial sewing machines and performing pattern cutting.
  • Strong attention to detail with consistent stitching and accurate measurements.
  • Ability to read and follow patterns, work instructions, and production specifications.
  • Basic math skills for measuring and calculating fabric requirements.
  • Basic communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong work ethic, professionalism, and pride in craftsmanship.
