Job summary

Nestlé USA is seeking a skilled IS 2 technician to maintain and repair ammonia refrigeration systems and related equipment in a manufacturing setting. Shifts available: 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

You will monitor system pressures, perform preventive maintenance, and execute repairs across boilers, glycol, and refrigeration equipment. Responsibilities include following CMMS work orders, documenting activities, and ensuring adherence to GMP and food safety standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Boiler Operator license (state‑specific) is required.
  • Basic electrical safety training policies (load panels, risk prediction) desired.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, adjust and log ammonia system pressures and temperatures.
  • Follow CMMS work orders and SOPs.
  • Repair and maintain refrigeration equipment incl. compressors, condensers, evaporator, pumps, valves, vessels and piping.
  • Maintain glycol system, steam boiler and related equipment; install evaporator condensate drains.
  • Ensure safety, quality and compliance with GMP and food safety requirements.
  • Train and assist level 1 techs and coordinate with vendors as needed.

Position Summary:

The IS 2 tech is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the ammonia refrigeration system and related equipment.

Shifts: 1st, 2nd, 3rd available

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Monitors, adjusts and logs ammonia systems pressures and temperatures.
  • Follows CMMS work orders.
  • Repairs and maintains all refrigeration related equipment including compressors, condensers, evaporator, pumps, valves, vessels and piping.
  • Repairs and maintains the glycol system associated with the refrigeration system including pumps, valves, tanks and piping.
  • Repairs and maintains the steam boiler and related equipment and piping.
  • Repairs and installs evaporator condensate drains.
  • Maintains HVAC systems based on CMMS or instructions given.
  • Suggests ways to control labor and supply costs as well as improve processes.
  • Ensures that all work activities are performed with attention to the highest standards for quality, safety and compliance with all appropriate legal and food safety requirements and a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ensures that all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) are followed.
  • Follows all company policies & procedures as well as the GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices).
  • Maintains a high level of safety awareness for an accident-free work place.
  • Reports any unsafe or hazardous work conditions or safety-related issues to Management.
  • Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.
  • Certified Ammonia CARO certification.
  • Train to certify on Ammonia CIRO certification.
Essential Skills and experience:
Education:
  • High School Diploma
  • Boiler Operator license (state‑specific).
  • Basic electrical safety training policies (understanding load panels, risk prediction).
Skills and Experience:
  • Solid hands‑on competencies validated through sign‑offs across multiple utility disciplines (steam, refrigeration, compressed air, glycol).
  • Competent in operating and maintaining:
    • Boilers/steam systems
    • Ammonia refrigeration systems (monitoring, adjustments, basic troubleshooting)
    • Chilled water/glycol systems
    • Compressed air systems
    • Nitrogen / inerting gases
  • Ability to perform planned and corrective work, including diagnosis, repair, and replacement of mechanical/utility components.
  • Ability to interpret gauges, relays, capacitors, fuses, pressure systems, and follow troubleshooting procedures.
  • Familiarity with hazardous gas management and pressure‑vessel safety practices.
  • Competence in rounds, documentation, permit compliance, and communication with operations.
  • Ability to recognize deviations, elevate risks, and follow emergency procedures.
  • Ability to support vendor coordination, inspections, and repair work.
  • Train and assist on level 1 techs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a plant production environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job in the plant, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles. Employee may be exposed to extreme hot or cold temperatures that range from below zero (0) degrees Fahrenheit to over ninety (90) degrees Fahrenheit. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. While in the plant, the employee is required to utilize the required personal protective equipment.

Pay: $40.50 - $42.00 per hour

Bonus Eligibility: Yes

The pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at top of range.
