Qualifications

The Position:

The Service Technician installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs automated equipment, including Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems, at customer sites across the U.S.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Travel to provide installation and setup of new equipment at customer site, including modification of PLC programs (largely Allen Bradley)
  • Read blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures
  • Perform diagnosis, repair and functional confirmation at customer site as required by service or maintenance contract
  • Examine work orders and talk to equipment operators to detect equipment issues and to determine whether human error contributed to the problem
  • Operate and test faulty equipment to analyze and diagnose malfunctions
  • Perform maintenance, repairs, tests or adjustments of equipment by applying mechanical and electrical knowledge
  • Diagnose problems, make adjustments and test using PLC/HMI solutions, make small logic changes for troubleshooting and reliability standards
  • Inspect components of equipment for accurate assembly and installation, or for defects
  • Repair and adjust equipment, machines, and defective components, replacing worn parts
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks such as checking, cleaning, and repairing equipment
  • Test equipment to ensure that it functions properly
  • Provide operation and maintenance training for the customer
  • Provide customers with occasional telephone support for start-up or troubleshooting
  • Advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, and suggestions for product improvements
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, programming changes, and upgrades

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Post-secondary education in mechanical and electrical systems, or two years minimum related work experience
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability and willingness to travel up 70% annually
  • Own a valid passport or have the ability to get one
  • Must be able to perform basic math skills
  • Must have a mechanical aptitude, familiarity with tools and measuring tools
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize computers and related technology effectively
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Must have ability to read and interpret visual aids such as drawings/ blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures

Desired Skills:

  • Good customer relations and communication skills
  • Fundamental knowledge and skills required to understand and interact with networks
  • Experience in reading electrical diagrams a plus
  • Experience in wiring control panels a plus
  • Familiarity with international travel experience a plus
