Job description

At JH Kelly, we’re seeking a strategic, results-driven Senior Project Manager with deep experience in industrial mechanical projects—such as mills, refineries, pulp & paper facilities, and heavy piping installations—to lead our Industrial team and deliver excellence on complex, high-stakes construction projects valued between $10M and $20M (and larger). If you’re a proven leader who thrives on managing multiple teams, driving profitability, building lasting client relationships, open to travel, and consistently exceeding expectations in a dynamic environment, this is your chance to shape the future with a century-old industry leader.

Salary Range

Salary Range: $150,000–$185,000 (DOE) FLSA exempt.

Benefits Package
  • Comprehensive Medical/Vision/Rx – Dental/Ortho Coverage: JH Kelly pays 87.5% of total premiums.
  • Paid Vacation and Holidays: Generous PTO model to support work-life balance.
  • 401K: 50% company match on the first 6% of employee contributions.
  • Life Insurance, AD&D, STD & LTD: Paid 100% by JH Kelly.
  • Annual Performance Bonuses: Opportunity for additional compensation based on performance.
  • Profit Sharing: Participate in JH Kelly’s profit-sharing program. Averaging 9% of total compensation over the past 10 years.
Responsibilities
  • Lead multiple project teams to successful outcomes on large-scale industrial projects, including piping and welding/code-compliant scopes.
  • Oversee full project lifecycle: scheduling (CPM expert using MS Project or similar), budgeting, cost control, projections, variance analysis, and risk management.
  • Direct project staff, manage concurrent projects, and ensure consistent application of company control procedures.
  • Plan and manage estimates, schedules, and control systems; account for variances and create accurate cost-at-completion forecasts.
  • Handle contract negotiations, change management, billings, forecasting, and timely collections.
Relationship & Business Development
  • Develop strong relationships and repeat business with key client decision-makers.
  • Market and sell JH Kelly industrial services to expand our client base.
  • Maintain proactive, positive relationships with craft personnel, customer representatives, vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams (safety, CAD/BIM, accounting, IT).
Team Development & Safety/Quality
  • Mentor, train, and develop Project Managers, Engineers, Interns, and staff.
  • Serve as the "leader in charge" for single large projects when needed.
  • Ensure adherence to all company safety and quality protocols with zero unresolved issues.
  • Promote and follow standard company processes and policies.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Utilize Project Management tools, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office (expert-level Excel) for documentation, take-offs, and reporting.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support overall success.
What You Bring
  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years in full-cycle project management within the industrial sector, with proven expertise leading and successfully delivering industrial mechanical projects in the $10M–$20M range (and larger) in industrial mills/plants (piping, vessels, welding, fabrication, equipment, structural, civil, electrical). Consistent track record of delivering projects profitably (greater than bid margin), on/ahead of schedule, and developing repeat business.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Civil, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related construction field.
  • Skills:
    • Expert in CPM scheduling (MS Project preferred), budgeting, risk assessment, negotiations, and forecasting.
    • Fully proficient in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam (mark-ups, take-offs), and intermediate-advanced Excel.
    • Experience with bids, POs, quantities, forecasting, and reporting.
    • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, QA/QC, and safety.
    • Exceptional leadership, mentoring, communication (oral/written), and relationship-building abilities.
  • Mindset: Self-starter, proactive, organized, energetic, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities. Comfortable self-generating workflow and building trust with senior management.
  • Requirements: Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; willingness to travel between job sites and work flexible hours as needed.
Physical Requirements

This role requires frequent transitions between office and construction field settings. In the office, you’ll sit for extended periods, perform repetitive tasks (typing, mouse use), and communicate by phone. In the field, you’ll stand/walk on uneven terrain, climb stairs, kneel/crouch/crawl to inspect tight spaces, and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds. Good vision/hearing are essential for reading plans, inspecting work, and on-site communication. You’ll work outdoors in various weather, adhere to site-specific dress codes, and wear required PPE (hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, steel-toed boots). Flexibility for travel and non-standard hours is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
