Job summary

Green Metals, Inc. is seeking a Shift Supervisor to oversee operations at a scrap metals facility. You will supervise multiple shift groups, coordinate with maintenance, and ensure safe handling and efficient movement of materials.

The role requires leadership to train staff, monitor performance, and maintain regulatory compliance while optimizing productivity and reporting to management.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or technical school, or equivalent work experience with management responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to supervise across multiple shifts and train staff.
  • Familiarity with MS Office suite and basic administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise multiple shift operations to ensure safe, efficient handling of scrap metals.
  • Directly oversee shift group leaders and coordinate with maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Organize inbound/outbound scrap movement and track volumes and records.
  • Develop and improve work instructions and procedures for material transport and handling.
  • Ensure OSHA/EPA compliance and maintain safe, orderly facilities and equipment.
  • Provide data for budgeting, planning and regular management reporting.

Summary

Supervises multiple shift operation to ensure efficient, safe receipt, handling, storage, and shipping of scrap metals at a single Green Metals production facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Selecting, training and supervising employees in safe, efficient conduct of daily operations across multiple shifts.
  • Direct supervision of one or more shift group leaders who oversee a single shift.
  • Overseeing the operation of equipment including mobile cranes, overhead cranes, forklifts, baler machine, shredder, and/or OTR CDL-required transportation equipment (tractors & trailers).
  • Coordinating with maintenance and repair personnel through their supervisor to ensure equipment downtime is minimized through effective preventive and responsive maintenance and repair activity.
  • Coordinating movement and activities of inbound and outbound scrap haulers and rail cars; ensuring effective administrative procedures are followed to track, record and measure scrap volumes and movement.
  • Directing the sorting and placement of scrap metals.
  • Leading in continuous improvement by establishing and improving work instructions and process procedures intended to improve material transportation, receiving, shipping and handling activities.
  • Ensuring the implementation of effective safety and environmental systems for the safety of GMI and transportation personnel, equipment, and property; ensuring that all areas of the facility and work areas are maintained in clean and orderly fashion.
  • Maintains compliance with all regulatory safety (OSHA) and environmental (EPA) and similar requirements.
  • Provide overall direction to group leaders for appropriate management of employee training & development, disciplinary and corrective action.
  • Initiates and maintains a positive employee relations environment in keeping with GMI requirements; ensures all employment activities comply with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Providing production activity data to support budgeting, planning, and regular reporting; preparing and presenting various business reports as required by GMI management.
  • Providing feedback and assistance with any customer service issues which may arise.
  • Assists in maintaining appropriate security programs and procedures for safety and security of personnel and property of the company, as required.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree from college or technical school, or equivalent work experience; at least two or more years including management responsibilities.
  • Personal computer skills with Microsoft software applications; specific experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; and internet proficiency.
  • Mechanical aptitude is helpful.
  • Travel: up to 10%.
  • Special requirements: training requirements matrix; GMI, Inc. unique training may be obtained during first three months of employment; additional training will be provided as a part of continuous improvement.
