Job summary

Thompson Turner Construction Industrial Building Group is seeking an estimator with 5–7 years of experience in industrial project estimating to prepare time, cost and labor estimates. This position requires a four-year engineering or construction management degree, strong MS Office skills, and experience with Primavera and Timberline software.

Candidates will interact with owners and design teams and help maintain project profitability.

Qualifications

• 4 year degree in engineering or construction management
• 5–7 years minimum experience estimating industrial projects
• Superior computer skills: MS Office
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Experience with Primavera and Timberline estimating software
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and work independently
• Drug test and background check may be required

Responsibilities

• Quantify project quantities using on screen and manual take off tools.
• Assemble estimates into project estimates for intermediary budgeting and bid day submittals.
• Periodically meet with owners and design team representatives to review estimates, value engineering, and constructability review.
• Review the preliminary plans and architectural drawings for the project.
• Review data to determine material and labor requirements and prepare itemized lists.
• Visit the site of the construction, noting geographical features and access to infrastructure.
• Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for management and bids.
• Conduct special studies to develop standard hour and related cost data.
• Consult with clients, vendors, or others to discuss estimates and resolve issues.
• Maintain relationships with suppliers and equipment vendors to negotiate better rates.
• Remain involved in a project to help maintain profit margin and handle changes.
• Create cost-monitoring processes to track profit or loss for each project.
• Consider duration, scope, and profitability of a new project or product.
• Other duties as assigned.
