Summary

Under limited supervision, prepares surfaces and applies industrial paints to various products during the manufacturing process. Occasionally, may paint facilities. Prepares surfaces for painting or repainting. Maintains painting equipment and tools by cleaning brushes, sprayers, and other equipment used to apply various chemicals and paints to product surfaces.

Job Description
  • Manages Paint Shop scheduling for various manufacturing-related painting projects to meet customer demand. Coordinates painting-related services as part of larger projects in the manufacturing work area.
  • Prepares surfaces to be painted and selects appropriate type of paint to be applied based on product specifications and surfaces requirements. Reviews application specifications to select appropriate type of paint to apply.
  • Applies paints with appropriate painting tools and equipment, such as cup guns, pressure pots, airless and air-assisted equipment or other type of equipment as appropriate.
  • Cleans and maintains spray equipment and Paint Room facilities and work areas.
  • Prepares product parts for prime and finish paint. May perform some prep work of product surfaces before applying coatings.
  • Mixes paints, primers, enamels, and other painting chemicals in accordance with manufacture's specifications and/or work orders.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

A high school diploma plus experience as described in the following table is required. Must possess appropriate licensing. Less than a year of directly related experience painting in an industrial setting. Normally requires close supervision. Generally, assigned tasks are somewhat simple in nature. Requires knowledge of the practices, tools, equipment, and materials used by Industrial Painters. Must be able to constantly move during the course of preparing surfaces and applying paint to products which means that employees may be on their feet for long periods of time. Must be able to work from numerous positions such as standing, kneeling, bending, and crouching. May be required to track and control inventory and usage of paints and other hazardous materials. Must demonstrate the ability to use a variety of hand tools during the application of paints and painting chemicals. Must have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence. The typical working environment includes various types of paints and other chemicals which require the use of respirators and other protective clothing. Any combination of equivalent directly related education and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications as stated above. Must be able to drive results under difficult or challenging time constraints.

  • Reaching above and below the shoulder Occasionally 1-33%
  • Above-average agility and dexterity with the ability to hold, grasp and manipulate small parts and use hand and power tools Constantly. 67-100%.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and handle physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, stretching, reaching, repetitive motion, or similar activities.
  • Work environments includes: Repetitive hand motion and fumes.
  • Travel to 1 sites. Valid driver's license
