Job summary

Hood Lumber, a division of Hood Industries, Inc., is seeking a maintenance millwright to champion reliability and proactive maintenance in our Mississippi facility. You will repair and maintain production equipment, manage spare parts, and perform welding and metalwork as needed.

You will also monitor downtime, implement efficiency projects, and ensure safety policies are followed, including potential night/weekend shifts. Strong multitasking and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Must have a minimum of 3 years’ work experience as a millwright.
• High school diploma/GED preferred.
• Maintenance experience in a lumber, manufacturing, or other industrial environment.
• Ability to understand, clearly communicate, and follow all safety rules and policies.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to make decisions quickly utilizing hand, eye, and foot coordination.
• Able to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
• Testing: must pass mechanical knowledge test and hands-on assessment.
• Physical: walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 50 lbs, work outdoors in all conditions.

Responsibilities

• Champion a culture of reliability in the maintenance department through data-driven decision making and proactive maintenance.
• Repair and maintain production/manufacturing equipment using all necessary tools.
• Repair/replace belts, hoses, valves, sprockets, chains, motors, spindles, blades, bearings, and other parts.
• Monitor spare parts inventory and initiate reorders as needed.
• Perform metalworking (welding, cutting, fabricating) when required.
• Repair hydraulic units and lubricate equipment.
• Occasionally operate a forklift, mobile crane, or other rolling stock.
• Communicate effectively with coworkers and management on maintenance issues.
• Review plant equipment performance to minimize downtime and identify improvement opportunities.
• Lead projects to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
• Follow safety, health, and environmental policies; respond to safety/HR or Safety Manager requests.
• Possibly additional plant operations duties as assigned.
