Thompson Pipe Group is expanding its St. Beloit, IL team and seeks an Industrial Mechatronics Maintenance Technician to diagnose, repair, and improve electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. The role is on-site in St.

Beloit with first shift hours 5:00 AM–3:30 PM and full-time status with overtime opportunities. Expect to work on PLCs, motors, gearboxes, and drives, using test equipment, and adhering to OSHA safety standards.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as an electrical/mechatronics technician in a manufacturing environment.
• English fluent reading/writing; Spanish a plus.
• Able to collaborate across teams and levels.
• Comfortable with high- and low-voltage work; experience with 3‑phase circuits.
• Strong math skills for measurements and calibrations; proficient with test/diagnostic tools.
• On-call availability for emergency service during off hours.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical/electronic equipment such as hoists, cranes, power supplies, boilers, scales, motors, gearboxes, cylinders, gauges, and test equipment.
• Apply electrical/mechanical theory, codes, and materials knowledge to plan and execute maintenance tasks.
• Install, start up, and shut down machinery following safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
• Coach operators on safe operating practices for electro‑mechanical systems.
• Escalate potential equipment risks to leadership and line teams.
• Use diagnostic instruments to install, test, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility systems.
• Diagnose PLC issues and service AC/DC motor drives.
• Repair electrical components including transformers, wiring, and control devices.
• Adopt new procedures to enhance safety and efficiency.
• Perform other duties to support continuous production.

Job description

Thompson Pipe Group, a family-led leader in North American water infrastructure products, is growing our St. Beloit, IL team. We’re hiring an Industrial Mechatronics Maintenance Technician to keep our steel pipe manufacturing equipment running safely and reliably by diagnosing, repairing, and improving electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

Pay: $25.00–$35.00 per hour, based on experience

Schedule: First shift, 5:00 AM–3:30 PM; full-time with overtime opportunities

Location: St. Beloit, IL

A day in this role

You arrive for first shift, review overnight logs, and prioritize calls to minimize downtime. A line stop leads you to trace a sensor fault back to a PLC input; you verify with test equipment, replace a failed component, and bring the line back up under lockout/tagout, meeting OSHA and site procedures. Later, you calibrate scales, swap a gearbox on a conveyor, and troubleshoot an AC drive on a 3‑phase motor. You brief operators on safe start-up, document your work, and identify improvements to boost reliability.

What you’ll handle

• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical/electronic equipment such as hoists, cranes, power supplies, boilers, scales, motors, gearboxes, cylinders, gauges, and test equipment.
• Apply electrical/mechanical theory, national and local codes, and materials knowledge to plan and execute complex maintenance tasks.
• Install, start up, and shut down machinery following company safety procedures and OSHA requirements for activation and shutdown.
• Coach operators and line mechanics on safe operating practices for electro‑mechanical systems.
• Escalate potential equipment risks and hazards to leadership and line teams.
• Use specialized diagnostic instruments to install, test, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility systems.
• Work independently and collaboratively across all levels of the organization.
• Diagnose PLC issues and service AC/DC motor drives.
• Repair electrical components including transformers, wiring, and control devices.
• Adopt and champion new procedures and innovations to enhance safety and efficiency.
• Perform other duties as needed to support continuous production.

What you bring

• 5+ years as an electrical/mechatronics technician in a manufacturing environment; capable of Maintenance II-level work.
• Fluent in reading/writing English; Spanish a plus. Able to collaborate across teams and levels.
• Comfortable with high- and low-voltage work; intermediate experience with 3‑phase motor branch circuits.
• Strong math skills for measurements and calibrations; proficient with a range of test/diagnostic tools.
• On-call availability for emergency service during off hours.
• Bilingual English/Spanish helpful, not required; military experience preferred.
• Full complement of tools for high‑level maintenance tasks.
• Solid mechanical/pneumatic/hydraulic aptitude; positive team leadership and a drive to keep operations clean and running smoothly.
