Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Mechanical Designer in Midlothian, VA to perform detailed piping, HVAC, and equipment layout design for heavy industrial projects. You will support bids, develop estimates, and create design concepts while coordinating with project managers to maintain quality and compliance.

The role involves 80% office work and 20% field data collection, with opportunities to advance in a growing engineering team.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in piping and HVAC design.
• Experience in a heavy industrial field.
• Proficiency in piping design, including process, service, and utility piping systems.
• Working knowledge and exposure to Plant 3D.
• Experience with AutoCAD and 3D design tools for mechanical and piping layouts.
• Mechanical design experience with piping, HVAC, CAD design, and HVAC design.
• Hands-on pipefitting experience in the field.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design duties for piping, HVAC systems and related components.
• Assist in developing bids, proposals, estimates and scopes of work.
• Prepare schedules, material lists, design concepts and drawings.
• Conduct field work and technical research to verify conditions and assumptions.
• Maintain organized project files and ensure traceability.
• Certify accuracy and completeness of deliverables.
• Monitor project scope, schedule and budget; escalate issues as needed.
• Provide day-to-day guidance to junior staff and ensure quality output.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to coordinate design efforts.
