Job summary

Packaging Corporation of America is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on manufacturing equipment and systems at our facility. You will troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, PLC, pneumatic and hydraulic issues using standard tools and manuals, ensuring reliability and safety.

Qualified candidates have a High School Diploma or GED, the ability to pass background/drug tests, and at least 3.5 years of experience with industrial machinery.

Responsibilities

  • Reads equipment manuals, diagrams, and work orders to perform required maintenance.
  • Uses tools and measuring instruments to verify dimensional changes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Role Overview:

Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on manufacturing equipment and systems according to established procedures. Completes troubleshooting and repairs on various types of equipment and systems (e.g. mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic). Uses hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments to completes tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensures reliability of machinery and equipment by completing preventive maintenance on machinery and systems.
  • Performs tasks including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, PLC, pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of equipment.
  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals, diagrams, sketches, engineering specifications, and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Uses hand tools and measuring instruments to determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices, using hand and power tools.
  • Adheres to all plant safety policies. Participates in plant-wide safety, housekeeping, Operational Excellence, and Lean Manufacturing programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Able to pass pre-employment background check and drug test.
  • Must be able to stand, kneel, crouch, crawl, sit, stoop and bend.
  • Experience in the Corrugated Packaging or Manufacturing environment Industry is a plus.
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft and Windows products.
  • Be Authorized to work in the US.
  • Must have 3.5 years of experience with industrial/manufacturing machinery.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Demonstrates ability to operate machines, hand-tools and electrical equipment.
  • Possesses an operational knowledge of automated industrial machinery, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Demonstrates ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and work orders.
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills with practical, mechanical, and electrical aptitude.
  • Possesses basic troubleshooting experience and proven skills in machine repair.
  • Demonstrates strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow directions and work well in a team.
  • Welding, machining and fabrication experience a plus.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • Starting salary for position: $28-42per hour.
  • Bonus: Annual – Based upon achievement of plant performance metrics.
  • Paid Vacation: 2weeks per calendar year. Pro-rata Vacation during the initial year of hire based upon start date within the calendar year.
  • Paid Holidays.
  • Within the first 30 days of employment, an employee (and their dependents) is eligible to enroll in certain benefit coverages -- medical, dental, and vision – and are automatically enrolled in life, AD&D, and disability coverages.
  • Upon hire, an employee is automatically enrolled in the 401k plan. The plan offers both pre-tax and Roth contribution options along with employer provided matching contributions.
