Job summary

The Hunton Trane division in Houston seeks an Industrial I&C Engineer to design and implement control systems for process cooling at industrial facilities. You will lead development of control strategies, IO lists, and instrument specs, coordinating with project management, drafting, and field teams.

You will review PLC/HMI programming, perform FAT/SAT, and support commissioning/startup activities while ensuring compliance with NEC, NFPA, ISA, and IEC standards.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of construction or engineering related work experience.
  • Strong process controls background.
  • Experience with industrial controls engineering and documentation on complex industrial projects.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation fundamentals (4-20 mA, HART, Modbus).
  • Ability to read electrical and instrumentation drawings (P&IDs, loop sheets).
  • Experience with commissioning activities for complex projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain control strategies, narratives, and functional specifications.
  • Project controls engineering including sequences of operations, points list, alarm setpoints, network topology, and integration coordination.
  • Participate in control panel design and wiring diagram reviews; integrate field instruments and motor control equipment.
  • Assist/review PLC/HMI programming, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting (Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, etc.).
  • Develop FAT and SAT documentation and punch lists; document results.
  • Assist with commissioning/startup activities, loop checks, and control validation.
  • Instrumentation: select and document field instruments; I/O lists; loop diagrams; instrument index maintenance.
  • Provide troubleshooting/technical support for instrumentation and control issues in the field.
  • Review electrical drawings and coordinate with electrical designers/contractors on controls wiring.
  • Ensure designs meet NEC, NFPA, ISA, IEC standards.
  • Maintain documentation: P&IDs, cause & effect, alarm setpoints, I/O lists, network architecture.
  • Support procurement: technical bid evaluations, vendor submittal reviews.

DescriptionHunton Trane, a division of the Hunton Group in Houston, TX, is seeking to hire an Industrial I&C Engineer . This role will be responsible for identifying and understanding the controls components required in processing heating and cooling applications. The Industrial I&C Engineer will be responsible for developing comprehensive technical solutions for the control systems on process cooling designs at industrial facilities.The selected individual will be part of the Hunton Trane Industrial engineering team working with engineers from other disciplines as the controls and instrumentation subject matter expert that ensures all controls engineering is properly coordinated with other project disciplines. This role will also provide required technical oversite & management for the implementation of control and instrumentation for each project. This will require working closely with project management, drafting, programming, & field engineering to facilitate smooth installations for the customer.Come work for an industry leade r that has been recognized both locally and nationally as one of Top Places to Work !Responsibilities:Controls / AutomationDevelopment and maintenance of overall control strategies, narratives, and functional specifications.Project controls engineering including development of sequence of operations, points list, cause & effect, alarm setpoints, network topography, equipment selection, integration coordination, and other project required controls engineeringParticipate in control panel design & wiring diagram reviews and integration of field instruments and motor control equipmentAssist/review programming, PLC/HMI configuration, testing, and troubleshooting (platforms may include Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, etc.).Develop and assist in execution of Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) document results and punch lists.Assist with commissioning/startup activities, loop checks, and control system validation.InstrumentationSelection and documentation of field instruments (pressure, temperature, flow, level, analyzers, control valves, etc).Assist with instrument datasheets, I/O lists, loop diagrams, and instrument index maintenance.Provide troubleshooting/technical support for instrumentation and control-related issues in the field.ElectricalSupport electrical design and coordination for low-voltage systems related to automation (power distribution to panels, MCC/VFD interfaces, grounding/bonding, etc.).Review electrical drawings (one-lines, wiring diagrams, termination drawings) and coordinate with electrical designers/contractors on controls wiring.Help ensure designs meet applicable codes/standards (NEC, NFPA, ISA, IEC-depending on industry).Documentation & StandardsMaintain accurate documentation: P&IDs markup packages, cause & effect, alarm setpoints, I/O lists, network architecture, and configuration backups.Follow Management of Change (MOC) and engineering document control procedures.Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying reliability, safety, and efficiency enhancements.Collaboration & Project SupportCoordinate with other engineering trades to ensure proper infrastructure, utilities, network considerations, clearances, and other items are provided for the controls system to function as needed & that all necessary project requirements are met.Work with drafting teams, programmers, and control sub-suppliers to make sure all controls of engineering and documentation are correct and meets project requirements.Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and contractors for installation and startup readiness.Support procurement activities: technical bid evaluations, vendor submittal reviews, and material requisitions.Provide clear status updates, action tracking, and technical communication to stakeholders.Although this is not a customer-facing role, there will be times this role will be required to provide technical clarification or expertise to a customer.QualificationsRequired Qualifications:BS degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.Minimum 5 years of construction or engineering related work experience.A strong process controls background.Experience with industrial controls engineering and documentation on complex industrial and mission critical projects.Mastery of process flow fundamentals including rotating equipment and hydronic system design.Working knowledge of industrial control systems concepts (PLC, HMI/SCADA, control loops, P&IDs).Experience with maintaining ISA and other industrial control standards.Familiarity with instrumentation fundamentals (4-20 mA, HART, Modbus, networking, discrete signals, basic calibration concepts).Ability to read and interpret electrical and instrumentation drawings (P&IDs, loop sheets, wiring diagrams).Background supporting commissioning process for complex projects.Strong troubleshooting mindset and willingness to support field/startup activities.Proficiency with Microsoft Office; comfort learning CMMS/document control tools.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Must be able to multi-task, work well with others, and have positive attitude.Preferred Skills:Experience working with hydronic controls for process cooling / refrigerationExperience working with modular plant construction
