Qualifications

  • Education or professional background in Industrial Hygiene, OSHA, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
  • 2+ years ES&H experience with emphasis on industrial hygiene in regulated environments.
  • Experience using air sampling equipment, noise dosimeters, IH instrumentation, and exposure monitoring methods.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, ACGIH TLVs, NIOSH criteria and exposure assessment practices.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate monitoring data and recommend exposure-control actions.
  • Excellent communication and training abilities across departments.
  • Experience with IH software, EDMS, and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain IH programs addressing chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic hazards.
  • Conduct exposure assessments including air sampling and noise monitoring.
  • Analyze data and recommend engineering, administrative, and PPE controls.
  • Ensure OSHA/EPA/DOE compliance and support audits.
  • Maintain IH records and provide technical support during inspections.
  • Develop and deliver training on respiratory protection, hearing conservation, hazard communication, and chemical safety.
  • Participate in risk assessments and JHAs.
  • Collaborate with operations and engineering to integrate IH requirements into work activities.
  • Provide guidance on exposures, PPE selection, and corrective actions.

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for an Industrial Hygienist opportunity in Oak Ridge, TN

Job Summary:

The Industrial Hygiene Specialist is responsible for supporting a safe and health-conscious work environment by identifying, evaluating, and controlling potential occupational health hazards. This position develops and administers industrial hygiene programs and works collaboratively with operations, engineering, maintenance, and leadership to manage workplace exposures, maintain regulatory compliance, and strengthen overall health and safety performance.

Responsibilities include:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain industrial hygiene programs addressing chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic workplace hazards.
  • Conduct exposure assessments, including air sampling, noise monitoring, and other industrial hygiene evaluations.
  • Analyze exposure data and recommend appropriate engineering, administrative, and PPE controls.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOE, and other applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Maintain required industrial hygiene records and documentation and provide technical support during audits and inspections.
  • Develop and deliver training on topics such as respiratory protection, hearing conservation, hazard communication, and chemical safety.
  • Participate in incident investigations, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments involving occupational health hazards.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, maintenance, and other teams to incorporate industrial hygiene requirements into work activities and process changes.
  • Provide technical guidance on workplace exposures, PPE selection, corrective actions, and other measures to reduce occupational health risks.
Qualifications:
  • Education or professional background in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
  • 2+ years ES&H experience with an emphasis on industrial hygiene, preferably within a Department of Energy (DOE), manufacturing, laboratory, industrial, or similar highly regulated environments.
  • Practical experience using air sampling equipment, noise dosimeters, industrial hygiene instrumentation, and occupational exposure monitoring methods.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements, ACGIH TLVs, NIOSH criteria, and accepted exposure assessment and control practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate monitoring and sampling data and develop appropriate exposure-control recommendations.
  • Effective communication, training, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments and organizational levels.
  • Experience using industrial hygiene software, electronic data management systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
