Job summary

BSI Consulting—an integrated risk and safety advisory—seeks a Consultant in Industrial Hygiene to support projects across the NYC area, primarily for the NYC School Construction Authority and regional clients. This full-time role suits someone with a science background and hands-on IH field experience.

Ideal candidates will have 1.5+ years of asbestos-related regulatory experience, strong report-writing skills, and willingness to travel locally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a science‑related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in environmental health & safety, industrial hygiene, or related consulting field.
• USEPA Lead Inspector license.
• Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to create clear technical reports in Microsoft Word; beginner-level Excel skills required.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD preferred.
• Experience working under NYC-specific regulatory frameworks strongly preferred.
• Professional certifications (CIH, CSP, ASP, CHMM, etc.) are a plus.
• Must be willing to travel locally and regionally; vehicle preferred but not required.
• Willingness to support occasional evening or weekend project needs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct IH exposure assessments, including air and noise monitoring, and develop sampling strategies tailored to NYC regulations.
• Perform hazardous building material surveys per local and federal guidelines.
• Conduct health and safety inspections in the field (PPE, lockout/tagout, confined space, machine guarding).
• Support hazard communication and chemical safety programs across client sites.
• Deliver in-person safety and regulatory training programs to clients and contractors.
• Assist in development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS management systems.
• Prepare client-ready reports using Word and related tools.
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients for timely service delivery.
• Perform site visits throughout the NYC metro area.
• Participate in after-hours and weekend work as needed.
