Job summary

Fairfax County Government seeks an experienced HVAC technician to perform journey-level maintenance, repair and installation of industrial and commercial HVAC equipment at the Adult Detention Center and Courthouse. The role includes calibration of systems and seasonal start-ups, with on-call requirements and potential daily relocation across the county.

Required licenses include Virginia journeyman license within 12 months, universal refrigerant recovery, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus a 2-year technical degree in air conditioning.
• Two years of progressively responsible HVAC experience or completion of an apprentice-level program for a total of four years.
• Valid driver's license, universal refrigerant recovery license, and Virginia journeyman license within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Perform journey-level and highly skilled maintenance, repair and installation of HVAC equipment.
• Troubleshoot malfunctions and calibrate equipment; conduct seasonal start-ups and shut downs.
• Work on control systems including DDC, pneumatic controls, EMS and BAS.
• Operate under general direction at Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and Courthouse.
