Job summary

NC Department of Adult Correction is seeking a skilled HVAC Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance and repairs at Roanoke River Correctional Institution in Halifax County. Position requires handling HVAC/refrigeration systems, and may involve supervising inmate helpers in a corrective environment.

Role is full-time (40 hours/week) with benefits including health insurance and retirement plans. Applicants must meet education and EPA certification requirements and be able to work independently

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 3 years of HVAC maintenance experience.
• EPA refrigeration/AC certification required.
• Knowledge of state HVAC regulations and testing equipment.
• Ability to identify causes and perform repairs independently.
• Familiarity with industrial HVAC/refrigeration systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and routine maintenance on HVAC and refrigeration systems at medium and minimum custody facilities.
• Install new equipment, charge refrigerants, replace bearings, seals and filters.
• Troubleshoot electronic/pneumatic equipment and balance distribution systems.
• Train/supervise inmate helpers as needed.
