Job summary

State of North Carolina is seeking an HVAC Mechanic I to perform journey-level work in heating, cooling and refrigeration at a multi-custody facility. You will design, install, and service energy control systems, supervise and train assistants, and ensure compliance with building codes and safety policies.

The role requires at least three years of related experience and EPA certification. This full-time position offers retirement plans, health insurance, and paid leave, with a Monday–Friday

Qualifications

• Minimum three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems.
• EPA certification required (Type I, II, III or Universal) per 40 CFR part 82.

Responsibilities

• Design, install, and repair HVAC energy control management systems in renovations and construction.
• Assist in installing electrical conduit and wiring for HVAC circuits.
• Perform preventive maintenance.
• Instruct lower level assistants and offenders in performing less technical repairs.
• Provide technical guidance and support to other staff in HVAC energy control management systems.
• Follow supervisor instructions, NC building codes, OSHA regulations and safety policies.
• Work with offenders as needed and perform repairs beyond own trade as necessary.
• Maintain knowledge of several trades.
